Since the beginning of this year, Shawan City has continuously accelerated the construction of water conservancy projects, going all out to start work, rush progress, and promote investment, effectively advancing the quality and efficiency of major water conservancy projects and injecting strong momentum into consolidating high-quality economic and social development.

In April this year, the farmland water conservancy construction project in Kuangou Village and Xidi Village, Dongwan Town, Shawan City officially started. On May 9, at the construction site in Kuangou Village, workers were carrying out the final work. In 2024, Dongwan Town actively secured 8.83 million yuan in central government subsidy funds for rural revitalization, along with 870,000 yuan in local self-raised funds, to renovate the irrigation system for 4,903 mu of land in the two villages.

Wang Xincheng, First Secretary of Kuangou Village in Dongwan Town dispatched by the Shawan City Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, said: "The drip irrigation project in our Kuangou Village started on April 20 this year. So far, the water storage tank has been fully completed and is in the final stage. The entire project is now 80 percent complete and is expected to be fully finished by May 20. Once completed, crop yields will increase significantly, and farmers' incomes will at least quadruple compared with the current level."

In Wulanwusu Town, construction work on the small and medium-sized river governance project at the Luotuobozi section of Banqiao River in Shawan City is proceeding in an orderly manner. The project started on April 15, with a planned construction period of 122 days, and 30 percent of the total workload has now been completed.

Li Jinguang, site manager of the small and medium-sized river governance project at the Luotuobozi section of Banqiao River in Shawan City, said: "We have completed 1.8 kilometers of foundation clearing. We have now deployed 38 pieces of specialized engineering machinery and 40 construction workers. Due to the tight schedule and heavy tasks, our company will continue to increase the input of machinery and personnel."

The project has invested 13.1 million yuan to build 3.2 km of new river channels and revetments, with a flood control standard of a 10-year return period and a designed peak flood flow of 44.9 m3/s. To ensure project quality and completion on schedule, the supervision party has assigned supervisory personnel sufficient to meet the needs of project construction and is actively implementing the quality responsibility system.

Zhang Xueliang, supervisor from Xinjiang Wanhua Construction Engineering Management Co., Ltd., said: "Our company has dispatched 7 professional supervision engineers to undertake the supervision task for this project. Through on-site supervision, patrolling, and testing, we conduct full-process and all-round follow-up inspections of key and difficult parts of the project, such as earthwork excavation, sand and gravel cushion filling, rolling, compaction, and the concrete pouring process."

It is understood that both banks of the middle reaches of the Banqiao River in Shawan City are home to villagers and farmland from 10 natural villages in Wulanwusu Town. Every flood season, floodwaters erode and affect surrounding farmland and villagers' living areas. Once the project is completed, it will effectively reduce losses caused by flood disasters.

Jiao Xuerong, deputy director of the Agriculture (Animal Husbandry) Development Service Center of Wulanwusu Town, said: "In previous spring seasons, the Wulanwusu Town government and the Water Resources Bureau would invest substantial manpower, material resources, and financial resources in flood control. After this project is completed, it will protect the safety of 6,000 people and 50,000 mu of farmland in 10 natural villages downstream, providing a guarantee for agricultural production safety."
