On May 17, 2024, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Tanzanian Foreign Minister Makamba in Beijing.

Wang Yi welcomed the Foreign Minister to China on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The China-Tanzania friendship was nurtured and founded by the older generation of leaders of both countries. "As a Chinese saying goes, 'Distance tests a horse's strength; time reveals a person's heart.' China-Tanzania friendship has laid a solid foundation. Last month, President Xi Jinping and President Hassan exchanged congratulatory messages on the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Tanzania, and spoke highly of the development process and brilliant achievements of bilateral relations. "As a Chinese poem reads, 'To enjoy a grander sight, ascend a higher stair.' The two heads of state have jointly drawn a new blueprint and charted the course for the next stage of the development of China-Tanzania relations. Over the past 60 years, China-Tanzania relations have been at the forefront of China-Africa relations, setting a fine example of developing countries supporting each other and seeking strength through unity. Guided by the important common understandings between the two heads of state, China is ready to work with Tanzania to deepen political mutual trust, strengthen strategic alignment, expand practical cooperation, and constantly enrich the China-Tanzania comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership with new connotations of the times.

Wang Yi said that China appreciates Tanzania's long-standing valuable support on issues concerning China's core interests, and will continue to firmly support Tanzania in safeguarding sovereignty, security and development interests, support Tanzania in independently exploring a development path suited to its national conditions, and support Tanzania in opposing interference by external forces. China will continue to maintain close high-level exchanges with Tanzania, continuously enhance mutual understanding and exchange of governance experience, jointly expand the global influence of the "China-Africa Dar es Salaam Consensus", and make greater contributions to promoting South-South cooperation and safeguarding the common interests of the Global South. The two sides should expand cooperation in key areas such as trade and infrastructure, and tap the potential for cooperation in such areas as processing and manufacturing, digital economy, blue economy and new energy. Taking the "China-Tanzania Year of Tourism and Culture" as an opportunity, the two sides should further deepen exchanges and cooperation in cultural and people-to-people fields and bring the two peoples closer to each other.

Wang Yi said that China has always taken developing solidarity and cooperation with African countries as an important cornerstone of its foreign policy. The Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) is the most important platform and mechanism for strengthening solidarity and cooperation between China and Africa. Since its inception 24 years ago, China-Africa trade volume has grown more than 20 times, and China's investment in Africa has increased by more than 100 times. The fruitful outcomes of China-Africa cooperation are there for all to see and have been highly commended by the African people and the international community. FOCAC has become a "golden招牌" of China-Africa cooperation and a banner leading international cooperation with Africa. The new FOCAC Summit will be held in Beijing this autumn. China sincerely invites Tanzania to join African countries in this grand event and make greater contributions to building an even closer China-Africa community with a shared future.

Makamba said that Tanzania and China enjoy a profound traditional friendship. Over the past 60 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the two countries have always trusted and supported each other. Firmly pursuing the one-China policy is the cornerstone of Tanzania's relations with China, and Tanzania will continue to firmly support China on issues concerning China's core interests and major concerns. Tanzania highly appreciates and firmly supports President Xi Jinping's vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind, the Belt and Road Initiative and the three global initiatives. At the China-Africa Think Tanks Forum held in Tanzania recently, scholars from more than 50 African countries and their Chinese counterparts jointly proposed the "Dar es Salaam Consensus". Tanzania hopes that the international community will listen to Africa's voice and support Africa's development. China is Africa's forever trustworthy friend, and Tanzania is willing to work with China to promote the establishment of a fairer and more equitable world economic order. Tanzania looks forward to strengthening exchanges of governance experience with China, deepening mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields, and maintaining close coordination on international and regional issues. Tanzania will actively participate in this year's FOCAC Summit and believes that the summit will achieve greater success.

The two sides also had an in-depth exchange of views on international and regional issues of common concern.
