State Grid Tibet Electric Power Co., Ltd. announced on the 17th that the 2024 outbound transmission of Tibetan electricity officially commenced that day, with an estimated 2 billion kWh of clean electricity to be transmitted this year, generating economic benefits of about 600 million yuan (RMB, same below), and helping central and eastern China and other regions reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1.6 million tons and sulfur dioxide emissions by 50,000 tons.

This year's outbound transmission of Tibetan electricity covers five regions—North China, Central China, East China, Northwest China and Southwest China—and 16 provinces and municipalities including Beijing, Shanghai and Hunan, which will further promote Tibet's green energy transition and provide strong support for the nationwide guarantee of electricity supply during the summer peak period.

It is reported that since the Tibet power grid first transmitted electricity outbound in 2015, as of the end of 2023, more than 13.6 billion kWh of clean energy such as hydropower has been transmitted outbound, generating economic benefits of more than 3.7 billion yuan, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 10.41 million tons, and making positive contributions to the clean and low-carbon energy transition in central and eastern China and other regions.

In recent years, Tibet's clean energy has developed rapidly. Up to now, clean energy accounts for more than 90 percent of the total in the Tibet power grid, with hydropower and photovoltaics accounting for the highest shares, and Tibet has basically achieved clean energy power supply.
