According to the Information Office of Chongming District and Shanghai-Hangzhou Railway Passenger Dedicated Line Co., Ltd., the preliminary planning and preparations for the Chongming Station of the high-speed railway are complete, and construction is expected to begin this year. Chongming Station is a newly built station on the Shanghai-Nanjing-Hefei High-Speed Railway, located near Wannan Village, Chengqiao Town, Chongming District, about 1.5 kilometers from the main urban area of Chongming. The Chongming Station building covers an area of approximately 10,000 square meters and adopts "Wings of the Yangtze River" as its design concept, abstracting the form of a pair of wings poised to take flight, symbolizing that with the arrival of the high-speed railway, Chongming is about to spread its wings, soar, forge ahead, and fly toward the future. The two wings gradually unfold along both sides, presenting a welcoming gesture to visitors from all directions.

It is worth noting that the design of Chongming Station accommodates vehicle turnaround requirements, creating conditions for future intercity services operating to and from the urban area. Chongming Station will also simultaneously build supporting transportation facilities such as bus, taxi, and private vehicle parking lots, achieving interconnection and seamless transfer between the high-speed railway and other modes of transport for the convenience of passengers. A distribution plaza of appropriate scale and harmonious environment will also be built around the station building, together forming a fully functional, green and ecological Chongming Station comprehensive transportation hub project.

The construction of the Chongming section of the Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu High-Speed Railway will set multiple records in railway construction history. Among them, the Chongtai Yangtze River Tunnel has a total length of 14.25 kilometers, including a shield-driven section of 13.25 kilometers, making it the high-speed railway river-crossing tunnel currently under construction in China with the highest standards, the longest tunneling distance, and the largest scale; the main navigable span of the Chongqi Road-Rail Yangtze River Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge with a main span of 400 meters, featuring two towers, double cable planes, and a steel truss composite girder, making it the world's longest-span road-rail dual-purpose ballastless-track cable-stayed bridge.

The Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu High-Speed Railway is a backbone line of the Yangtze River corridor in the national medium- and long-term railway network plan's "Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal" network, and a key intercity corridor of the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration. Once completed, the high-speed railway will complete an important piece of the puzzle between the coastal corridor and the Yangtze River corridor of the "Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal" high-speed rail network, and Chongming will also integrate into the regional railway network, ushering in major development opportunities.
