CCTV News Report:May 12 is the 16th National Disaster Prevention and Reduction Day. This year's theme is "Safety for All, Emergency Response for All — Striving to Enhance Grassroots Disaster Prevention and Risk Avoidance Capabilities." As the flood season begins, severe convective weather occurs frequently, and in mountainous areas it can easily trigger geological disasters such as landslides, rockfalls, and debris flows. However, before these geological disasters occur, there are often warning signs. How can we promptly capture these early warning signals and take scientifically sound avoidance measures? Let's take a look at the guide.
What are the warning signs before a geological disaster occurs?

Before a landslide occurs, the soil at the front edge will suddenly rise violently and bulge and crack, or even show local slumping and orderly fissures, and groundwater will gush out along the compression cracks.
Before a rockfall occurs, rock fragments will continuously fall from the cliff face, and tearing and friction sounds will come from deep within the mountain.

The warning signs of debris flows are even more obvious: the water level in the gully will rise sharply, and the river may suddenly stop flowing or the flood may surge; the depths of the gully will become dark and unclear, accompanied by a deafening roar, and one may even feel slight vibrations of the ground surface.
How to save yourself when encountering a geological disaster?

If you accidentally encounter a landslide, rockfall, or debris flow, quickly move to safe high ground. Do not take shelter or stay in low-lying valleys or beneath steep slopes. Do not run upstream or downstream along the gully; instead, flee toward the slopes on both sides perpendicular to the direction of the disaster.
How to ensure safety when driving in a geological disaster?

If there are cracks, deep trenches, or signs of water seepage on the road, or cracks appear in bridge or tunnel walls, or the water level has submerged the bridge piers, or water in the tunnel has submerged the wading line, be sure to stop the vehicle immediately and call the police. Do not attempt to drive through at risk.
How to respond when encountering a tornado?

Severe convective weather can easily trigger tornado disasters in plain areas. When encountering a tornado outdoors, move away from it from the side or rear. If there is no time to avoid it, quickly find an open depression and lie down.
When driving and encountering a tornado, get out of the vehicle and escape as soon as possible. If the tornado is relatively far away but the crosswind is strong, hold the steering wheel with both hands, maintain the correct driving direction, and do not brake suddenly. If a tornado occurs at home, stay away from doors and windows.
