On May 8, a netizen posted a video claiming that loquats in Chongqing were unsalable and that villagers painfully crushed over a thousand jin of ripe loquats. In the video, a fruit grower pours an entire back basket of loquats directly onto the ground, with a voiceover saying: "The loquats can't be sold (won't sell), look, basket after basket is just dumped like this." Another video shows a grower pouring loquats onto the ground while stomping on them, with some shouting: "Don't want them anymore, don't want them anymore."

The reporter learned that the filming locations of the aforementioned videos are all at a fruit trading market in Gulou Town, Hechuan District, Chongqing. Public information shows that Gulou Town introduced loquat cultivation in 1984, and it has been 40 years since then. The loquat industry has now become a pillar industry of agricultural development in Gulou Town, and its quality has met the requirements for entering the mid-to-high-end domestic fruit market. Liu Lixin, deputy director of the Hechuan District Culture and Tourism Commission, said at the launch ceremony of the Hechuan loquat picking event held on April 25 this year that "Hechuan loquat" is renowned at home and abroad, has been included in the "National Famous, Special, Excellent and New Agricultural Products List" and the "National Characteristic Agricultural Products List," and has won the title of "Chongqing High-Quality Climate Agricultural Product." As the main producing area of Hechuan loquats, Gulou Town has a planting area of more than 40,000 mu and more than 7,000 growing households, with "Dawuxing" as the main variety, producing more than 26 million jin of fresh loquats annually and an output value of more than 200 million yuan.
