The reporter learned from the China National Space Administration that at 10:12 Beijing time on May 8, under the precise control of the Beijing Aerospace Flight Control Center, the Chang'e-6 probe successfully carried out its near-moon braking and smoothly entered a lunar orbit for flight.

Near-moon braking is a key orbital control maneuver during the flight of the Chang'e-6 probe. When the Chang'e-6 probe approaches the Moon, it performs a "braking" maneuver to reduce its relative velocity below the lunar escape velocity, thereby being captured by the Moon's gravity and achieving lunar orbit flight.

Subsequently, with the support of the Queqiao-2 relay satellite, the Chang'e-6 probe will adjust the altitude and inclination of its lunar orbit and, at an opportune time, separate the orbiter-returner combination from the lander-ascender combination. After that, the lander-ascender combination will carry out a soft landing in the South Pole-Aitken Basin on the far side of the Moon and, as planned, conduct the far-side lunar sample return mission.
