On April 24, with the sounding of the launch order, the "Kunpeng" dual-mode shield machine began its second excavation launch at Chongqing Road Station, marking the start of a new tunneling journey for the shield machine on the right line of Section 05 of Qingdao Metro Line 5, which is constructed by the company.

The section from Chongqing Road Station to Metro Building Station has a total length of 1,212.99 meters. It starts at the large-mileage end of Chongqing Road Station, runs along Changning Road, passes through Ningxiang Road and Tailiu Road, and then connects to Metro Building Station. The upper part of the section contains a water-rich sand layer, with two designed curves of less than 500 meters in small curvature radius for excavation. It passes through soft-hard composite strata, undercrosses risk points such as the existing Line 3 and the Heilongjiang Road Viaduct, crosses five fault and structural fracture zones, and the surrounding rock joints and fissures are developed. The geological conditions are extremely complex and construction is highly difficult.

The "Kunpeng" has two excavation modes, shield and TBM, which can be quickly switched, enabling safe and efficient excavation of the shield in soft soil and hard rock. The shield machine is also equipped with multiple intelligent innovative technologies. The advanced geological prediction system can effectively detect unfavorable geology, achieve early discovery, early warning, and early control, and fully guarantee construction safety during excavation. The cutterhead wear monitoring system obtains cutterhead wear information in real time and replaces poor cutterheads in a timely manner. The simultaneous grouting system adds two simultaneous double-fluid grouting schemes to ensure rapid support of the rock mass around the segment, improve the efficiency of integrating the segment with the surrounding rock mass, effectively control ground settlement, and ensure safe construction.

To ensure the smooth launch of the shield machine and subsequent smooth construction, the project team coordinated and connected with equipment manufacturers many times, evaluated the condition of the shield machine, carried out point-to-point professional maintenance, and restored the shield machine to its best condition. At the same time, it systematically reviewed the construction risks and key difficulties of the next section, conducted detailed analysis and demonstration of the excavation plan, and fully guaranteed safe and smooth excavation of the shield machine. It gave full play to the role of "two-entry" personnel. Party members and management personnel participated in team management together with labor team leaders, became integrated with team members, enhanced the team members' sense of ownership, built an excellent team, and cultivated a group of new-type industrial workers.

Next, the project department will organize carefully, refine management, adhere to innovation-led development, continuously improve the level of team building, stimulate the vitality of frontline teams, and promote Qingdao Metro's steady progress toward the goal of "building a world-class metro."

Qingdao Metro Line 5 starts at Maidao Station and ends at Yunling Road Station, with a total length of about 32.6 kilometers. It connects the three districts of Shinan, Shibei, and Laoshan, has 27 stations in total, and links 8 metro lines. It has typical "C"-shaped loop characteristics and is a backbone rail transit line in the main urban area. After opening to traffic, it can effectively relieve the congested traffic network and improve Qingdao's traffic environment and citizens' travel conditions.
