Recently, the Chongqing Municipal Housing and Urban-Rural Development Commission released the "2024 Urban Drainage and Sewage Treatment Facility Construction Plan," which will accelerate the construction and renovation of drainage facilities this year. At the same time, in conjunction with special initiatives such as urban renewal and upgrading, old residential community renovation, and urban village transformation, a further batch of drainage pipeline network renewal and renovation projects will be generated.

　　It is reported that Chongqing, following the principle of "municipal-level coordination and territorial responsibility," is accelerating the construction of sewage treatment facilities to further improve the city's sewage treatment capacity and safety resilience. This year, 36 urban sewage treatment plant new construction, expansion, and reconstruction projects will be implemented, including 4 in preliminary research, 17 newly started, and 15 under continued construction; among the newly started and continued projects, 6 will be completed, adding a treatment capacity of 115,000 cubic meters per day. In addition, 21 township sewage treatment plant new construction, expansion, and reconstruction projects will be implemented, including 1 in preliminary research, 10 newly started, and 10 under continued construction; among the newly started and continued projects, 12 will be completed, adding a treatment capacity of 12,900 cubic meters per day.

　　To accelerate the refined investigation of drainage pipeline networks, Chongqing will systematically advance the construction and renovation of urban drainage pipeline networks in conjunction with work such as urban waterlogging control, urban renewal, urban village transformation, and old residential community renovation. It will steadily increase the centralized collection rate of domestic sewage and the annual average concentration of influent biochemical oxygen demand at urban domestic sewage treatment plants, reduce sewage overflow during the rainy season, and accelerate the remediation of risk and hazard points. More than 800 kilometers of new urban drainage pipeline networks will be built, more than 900 kilometers of urban drainage pipeline networks will be renovated, and more than 300 kilometers of new and renovated township drainage pipeline networks will be constructed. At the same time, Chongqing will also accelerate the construction of harmless sludge treatment and disposal facilities, ensure sludge disposal capacity, and improve the harmless and resource-oriented treatment rate of sludge; actively promote the construction of a resilient system for sludge treatment and disposal featuring source reduction, on-site temporary storage, regional scheduling, and emergency support, and gradually enhance emergency sludge disposal capacity.
