The launch ceremony for Beijing's 42nd "Bird-Loving Week" was held on April 13. This year's "Bird-Loving Week" takes "Jointly Building a Conservation System, Sharing Birdsong and Floral Fragrance" as its theme. At the launch ceremony, the Beijing Municipal Forestry and Parks Bureau released the "Beijing Terrestrial Wildlife List (2024)," which shows that the number of terrestrial wildlife species recorded in Beijing has increased from 608 to 612, with birds reaching 519 species.

A relevant official from the Beijing Municipal Forestry and Parks Bureau stated that this is the second update of the list since it was first released in 2021.

"All four newly added species are birds, including the Black Baza, Oriental Magpie-Robin, and Black-throated Tit discovered by wildlife enthusiasts during field observations, as well as the Common Cuckoo confirmed according to ** taxonomic methods. After expert appraisal organized by the Beijing Municipal Forestry and Parks Bureau, these birds were confirmed as newly added species in Beijing. Since the release of the new list in 2021, a total of 16 wildlife species have been added. The discovery of these newly added species indicates that Beijing's wildlife resources are becoming increasingly rich," the official said.

It is reported that Beijing lies on the East Asian–Australasian Flyway, and large numbers of migratory birds pass through every year. Since this year's spring migration season, many rare and endangered birds such as the Oriental Stork, Scaly-sided Merganser, and White-tailed Sea Eagle have frequently visited, once again confirming the remarkable achievements Beijing has made in wildlife protection and ecological environment governance.
