Recently, the 2024 International Bridge Conference awarded the "George S. Richardson Medal" to the Lingdingyang Bridge of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link. The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link has become the only bridge project in China and Guangdong to receive this honor this year, and it is also the tenth project in China to receive this award since its establishment.
The International Bridge Conference (IBC) is an academic conference hosted by the Engineers' Society of Western Pennsylvania in the United States, and it has extremely high influence in the world bridge community. The conference awards were established in 1988 and are known as the "Nobel Prize" of the bridge field, while the "George S. Richardson Medal" is the earliest established and most influential award among them, focusing on outstanding achievements in design, construction, research, education, and other aspects, and is presented to recently completed bridge engineering projects worldwide.
The International Bridge Conference believes that the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link project follows the sustainable development concept of people-oriented, harmony between humanity and nature, energy conservation and emission reduction, and public satisfaction. Its design strives for simplicity and rhythm, adopts the integrated crystal facet design element throughout the entire line, and has achieved multiple innovations in wind resistance technology, steel bridge deck U-rib welded joints, high-strength and durable main cables, offshore anchorage construction, and industrialized construction of cable towers. From preliminary design to technological innovation, the project has consistently implemented the concepts of standardized, factory-based, and intelligent construction throughout the entire process, promoting the development of suspension bridge technology worldwide.

The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link integrates bridges, islands, tunnels, and undersea interchanges. Facing the harsh environment of high temperature, high humidity, high salinity, and frequent strong typhoons, the project overcame the construction challenge of large anchorages on deep soft foundations in sea areas, pioneered fully penetrated welded joint technology for steel bridge decks, developed and applied 6 mm diameter 2060 MPa high-strength zinc-aluminum rare earth (magnesium) alloy coated steel wires, and the first integrated intelligent tower-building machine in China; it set 5 world records, including the largest span of an offshore suspension bridge in the sea, the highest navigable clearance, the largest offshore anchorage volume, the highest main cable steel wire strength, and the highest flutter verification wind speed.
