Tianjin Northern Network News: The super-large-diameter shield tunneling machine "Jingbin Xietong Hao" for the Beijing-Binhai Intercity Railway was successfully launched in Tianjin yesterday, marking that the Tianjin Airport No. 2 Tunnel project of the Beijing-Binhai Intercity Railway has officially entered the shield tunneling stage.
The Beijing-Binhai Intercity Railway is an important component of the "Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei on Track" initiative. In December 2022, the Baodi to Beichen section and the Baodi Station, Baodi South Station, and Beichen Station of the national railway Beijing Bureau along the line were opened for operation. "At present, the Dongli to Binhai New Area section of the second phase of the project is being accelerated. Among them, the Tianjin Airport No. 2 Tunnel is located in the city's Dongli District and Airport Economic Zone, connecting to the Tianjin Airport underground station in the north and, after passing beneath the elevated section of the Jishan Expressway to the south, emerging to the surface. The line has a total length of 8,663 meters and is a single-tube double-track tunnel, with a shield tunneling section of 7,720 meters, making it a key control project for the entire line." Zhang Changqiang, senior project manager of the Engineering Management and Preliminary Department of the Beijing-Binhai Intercity Railway Co., Ltd., introduced that the shield tunneling machine used this time is the largest-diameter slurry balance shield tunneling machine in railway projects in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region at present, with a shield excavation diameter of 13.8 meters.
"The shield tunnel will pass through a large number of risk sources, including the Jishan Expressway and the Xijian River, with many construction restriction factors; the hydrogeological conditions are very complex and technically difficult. At the same time, the shield tunnel passes beneath the airport's vertical taxiway, and the normal operation of the airport must be ensured during construction, with strict settlement control requirements." Ni Bingya, deputy technical manager of the Section 5 project of the Jinbin Intercity Railway of China Railway 14th Bureau Group Co., Ltd., introduced that in order to ensure the adaptability and efficient tunneling of the shield machine in complex strata, the construction team of China Railway 14th Bureau conducted multiple studies and demonstrations on the shield machine manufacturing plan and carried out targeted design to improve the safety and durability of the shield machine; by carefully analyzing risk points, establishing emergency response plans, and efficiently organizing water and land transportation, on-site assembly, and commissioning, they ensured the timely, safe, and smooth launch of the shield machine.
After the Beijing-Binhai Intercity Railway is fully connected, a large comprehensive transportation hub integrating railways, civil aviation, subways, and other modes of transportation will be formed at Tianjin Binhai Airport, providing more convenient and rapid travel services for the people of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
"The Beijing-Binhai Intercity Railway is the third intercity corridor between Beijing and Tianjin, undertaking passenger flow along the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei line while also being part of the auxiliary corridor of the Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway." According to Wang Dongsheng, deputy director of the Railway Construction Division of the Municipal Transportation Commission, "according to the construction plan, the southern section of the Beijing-Binhai Intercity Railway is expected to be completed and opened to traffic simultaneously with the Jin-Wei High-Speed Railway in 2027, better supporting the integrated development of the regional economy."
