On April 7, the reporter learned from the Tianjin Port Free Trade Zone Administrative Committee that the left-line shield tunneling of the Central Avenue Station–Dongliudao Station section of the first phase of Tianjin Rail Transit Line Z2 (Binhai Airport Station–Beitang Station)—constructed by China Railway Binhai (Tianjin) Rail Transit Investment Development Co., Ltd. and undertaken by China Railway No. 4 Engineering Group Co., Ltd.—has been successfully received, marking the completion of the first shield-driven section of Line Z2 and laying a solid foundation for the full "tunnel breakthrough" of Line Z2.
The PPP project of the first phase of Tianjin Rail Transit Line Z2 has a total length of 39.268 km, starting from Binhai Airport Station and ending at Beitang Station, with 14 stations in total, including 5 underground stations and 9 elevated ground stations.
The Central Avenue Station–Dongliudao Station section is the first station on the entire line to have its underground station capped and the first section on the entire line to be holed through. The left line has a total length of 2,176.404 m, starting from the east end of Central Avenue Station and received at Dongliudao Station, with a total tunneling duration of 240 days and 1,450 rings of segments installed. The shield machine successively passed alongside important buildings in the airport area of the Tianjin Port Free Trade Zone—including the Crowne Plaza Hotel, the Airport Sports Center, and the Airport Cultural Center—and passed beneath the Yuanjia River before reaching the receiving shaft at Dongliudao Station. The geological conditions along the route are relatively complex, requiring traversal of silty clay layers, silty sand layers, and various other strata, with complicated construction procedures, high difficulty, and high risk.
To ensure the smooth reception of the "Bintou No. 3" shield machine, the project department established a special shield reception task force and organized more than 10 seminars and expert consultation meetings. Through research on the tunneling conditions and analysis of tunneling parameters, the tunneling scheme was continuously optimized, providing strong technical support for shield tunneling. In addition, through measures such as daily pre-shift briefings, on-site safety disclosures and training, and daily coordination meetings, the project department strengthened workers' awareness of safe construction and continuously consolidated safety production responsibilities. Furthermore, the project department strengthened the management of shield cutting tools, conducting strict self-inspections of the tools to ensure safe and reliable shield tunneling.
The first phase of Tianjin Rail Transit Line Z2 connects two comprehensive transportation hubs—Binhai International Airport and Binhai High-Speed Railway Station—and mainly passes through key development areas such as the Airport Economic Area, the High-tech Zone, the West Zone of the Economic and Technological Development Area, the Ocean High-tech Zone, and Beitang. It is an important rail transit line connecting the central urban area with the Binhai New Area. The Tianjin Port Free Trade Zone attaches great importance to this project. To accelerate project construction, relevant departments of the Free Trade Zone have integrated planning, construction, and other links, fully strengthened safeguards for all elements, and promoted the orderly progress of all work.
Once completed, the project will further optimize the urban structural layout between the twin cities of Tianjin and Binhai, improve the travel experience of citizens between the two cities, and play a positive role in promoting the development of important areas along the route, including residential areas, industrial areas, manufacturing zones, ecological zones, and tourist areas.
