On April 7, at the construction site of Section 5 of the Supporting Facilities Renewal and Water-Saving Renovation Project for the Ningjiahe Medium-Sized Irrigation District in Shawan City, reporters saw machinery and construction workers carrying out operations, with a busy scene on site.

Zheng Gang, site manager of Section 5 of the Supporting Facilities Renewal and Water-Saving Renovation Project for the Ningjiahe Medium-Sized Irrigation District in Shawan City, said: "What we are doing now on the canal is concrete base slab pouring and compaction of the anti-freeze cushion layer. We entered the site on March 19, and 10 large machines have been brought in, and 54 workers have already arrived on site. Once temperatures rise, we will invest heavily in machinery and manpower to complete the canal before the spring irrigation on May 5."

The Supporting Facilities Renewal and Water-Saving Renovation Project for the Ningjiahe Medium-Sized Irrigation District in Shawan City involves a total canal renovation length of 48.23 kilometers, including the renovation of 3 main canals and 7 branch canals, with construction carried out simultaneously across six sections.

Yang Bo, a cadre from the Construction Management Section of the Shawan Municipal Water Resources Bureau, said: "We are also stepping up efforts to urge each section to increase the input of machinery and personnel. Once the project is completed, it can improve the irrigation area by 164,500 mu, covering the two townships of Dongwan and Xigebi, increase grain production capacity by 1.8 million kilograms, and add an annual water-saving capacity of 1.33 million cubic meters, effectively promoting the sustainable development of agriculture and animal husbandry in the two townships."

Similarly, in Liumaowan Town, since the resumption of work on March 25 for the renewal and renovation project of the Shawan City Water Diversion Project from Jinhe to Mache (Yangjia Canal), all sections have also been under intensive construction. The project mainly involves the construction of more than 11 kilometers of anti-seepage canals and supporting structures such as check and diversion sluices and rural bridges.

Qi Xiaojie, a supervision engineer from Xinjiang Wanhua Construction Engineering Management Co., Ltd., said: "Since resuming work, we have deployed 20 machines and more than 90 personnel, completed canal waste clearing, gravel material paving, and geomembrane laying, completed 1.8 kilometers of canal pouring, and completed the pouring of 2 rural bridges. As the supervising party, during construction we strictly control project quality, ensuring quality and quantity so that the project is completed as early as possible."

It is understood that the renewal and renovation project of the Shawan City Water Diversion Project from Jinhe to Mache (Yangjia Canal) has a total investment of 21.7 million yuan and started construction in September 2023. At present, the overall project progress has reached 45 percent and is expected to be delivered for use by the end of June this year.

Chen Lei, technical director of the Construction Management Section of the Shawan Municipal Water Resources Bureau: "After the project is completed, the total controlled irrigation area will be 80,800 mu. On the one hand, it will replace groundwater with surface water, saving 5.6 million cubic meters of groundwater. On the other hand, through anti-seepage renovation, limited water resources can be fully utilized, improving the water diversion conditions of the irrigation district in Liumaowan Town and alleviating the tight supply of agricultural water."
