Kunming, April 11 (Shi Wenzhi) On the evening of the 10th, the lecture hall of ** Middle School in Xundian County, Kunming City, southwest China, was packed, as more than 400 teachers and students gathered to listen to the lecture "Random Talks on Mathematical Problem-Solving Methods" delivered by Xiong Bin, professor at the School of Mathematical Sciences of East China Normal University (hereinafter referred to as ECNU). High school students from other schools in Xundian County watched the live stream online, simultaneously enjoying a feast of intellectual leaps.

　　This is the monthly "Wisdom and Creativity" thinking-expansion series course for Xundian students since September 2023, one of ECNU's educational assistance measures for Xundian.

　　In 2019, ECNU actively responded to the Ministry of Education's deployment of targeted assistance work, continuously delivering various forms of educational support to Xundian Hui and Yi Autonomous County in Yunnan Province, more than 2,700 kilometers away, to solve problems such as the overall low teaching quality and the serious loss of high-quality students, and to let high-quality educational resources take root here.

　　Zhu Wenjia, member of the Standing Committee of the Xundian County Party Committee, deputy county magistrate of the county government (on secondment), and vice dean of the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship of ECNU, introduced that since the paired assistance began, the university has fully leveraged its professional and disciplinary advantages and its expert and alumni resources, leading educational quality improvement with "all-stage assistance," digital empowerment with "smart campuses," and connotative innovation with "all-round education platforms," gradually forming the "Xundian Plan" for the reform and development of basic education in ethnic regions of southwest China, and creating the "Xundian Model" of universities helping rural education revitalization.

　　In August 2022, the ECNU Xundian Experimental Class opened at ** Middle School in Xundian County. Through new school-county cooperative education models such as the dual-mentor system, professors entering the classroom, and the development of special courses, it promotes students' all-round development in morality, intelligence, physique, aesthetics and labor while exploring a new model for high school reform in ethnic regions of southwest China. Up to now, the experimental class has enrolled two cohorts totaling 202 students.

　　As one of the first to "eat the crab," Yu Haoyuan, a second-year high school student at ** Middle School in Xundian County, said that entering the experimental class not only allowed him to enjoy high-quality educational resources from coastal areas at his doorstep, but also exposed him to new concepts such as "brain science intelligence." Over the past two years, Yu Haoyuan's grades in all subjects have improved significantly, and in last semester's unified exam he ranked first in the entire city of Kunming in history as a single subject. Regarding next year's college entrance examination, Yu Haoyuan said he wants to strive for Peking University or Renmin University of China.

　　In response to problems such as the scarcity of rural educational resources and uneven educational quality in Xundian, ECNU, relying on the digital teaching-support rural revitalization empowerment project, through measures such as the "Five-Color Courses" and one-to-many, point-to-point pairing between teachers and students, enables university teachers and students to experience traditional culture, perceive the frontiers of science and technology, and exchange inner worlds together with primary school students in Xundian thousands of miles away through digital platforms, both online and offline. "Through learning on the digital platform, I not only learned about the ethnic customs of various places and the development history of Chinese characters, but also discovered the mysteries of science," said Wu Yannan, a student at the nine-year consistent school in Diansha Township, Xundian County.

　　During this period, ECNU also promoted the synchronized growth of young people in Shanghai and Yunnan and comprehensively improved the educational capacity of primary and secondary school teachers through the ECNU-Xundian County Primary and Secondary Schools Mental Health Education Joint Guidance Center, the "3:30" quality education assistance plan, the first Xundian County Youth Science and Technology Innovation Competition, the online training project of workshops for key primary and secondary school teachers, and the "Starry Sky Plan" engineering training program for rural education.

　　"In Xundian there is a helping force called ECNU." Zhu Jingao, Party secretary and director of the Xundian County Education and Sports Bureau, said that thanks to the substantial help ECNU has given in material assistance, teacher training, student thinking-expansion training, and school software and hardware facilities, Xundian's educational development has maintained a steady and improving trend in recent years.

　　"Next, we will explore new technologies, expand new platforms, and continue to advance the construction of the experimental class, forming an educational assistance model of 'typical cases driving, systematic advancement, and coordinated efforts,' and radiating more high-quality resources to the front line and grassroots of rural education revitalization," Zhu Wenjia said.
