At 4:30 a.m. on the 3rd, the Jiangxi Provincial Hydrological Monitoring Center released information showing that the "Xiuhe River Flood No. 1 of 2024" had formed in the lower reaches of the Xiuhe River.

From 10:00 on April 1 to 4:00 on the 3rd, heavy rain fell across the Xiuhe River basin, with torrential rain in some areas, and the basin-wide average rainfall reached 106 mm. Affected by the intense rainfall, the water level at the Yongxiu station in the lower reaches of the Xiuhe River rose to the warning level of 20.00 meters at 4:00 on the 3rd, meeting the flood numbering criteria in accordance with the Provisions of Jiangxi Province on Flood Numbering for Major Rivers.

On April 1, Jiangxi Province officially entered its flood season. On the 2nd, Jiangxi continued to experience both heavy rain and severe convective weather, with heavy rain and torrential rain in many places, accompanied by thunderstorm gales of around Force 8, and hail in some areas.

At 16:55 on the 2nd, the Jiangxi Provincial Hydrological Monitoring Center issued a blue flood warning, urging relevant units and the public in low-lying areas along the riverbanks—including Yongxiu County, Xingfuxu, Gaoqiaoxu, Sanjiaolianxu, the Beijing-Kowloon Railway Bridge, and the Fuyin Expressway Bridge—to strengthen precautions and take timely shelter.

At 21:30 on the 2nd, the Jiangxi Provincial Meteorological Bureau upgraded its emergency response for major meteorological disasters (heavy rain) from Level IV to Level II. It is forecast that in the next 24 hours, parts of northern Jiangxi, central Jiangxi, and northern southern Jiangxi will still experience heavy rain, with torrential rain in some areas; the precipitation will have pronounced convective characteristics and short-term rainfall intensity will be strong.

Due to the large cumulative rainfall and long duration of rain, the risk of floods in small and medium-sized rivers, mountain torrents, and geological disasters has increased. The meteorological department reminds all localities and relevant departments across the province to strengthen monitoring and patrols of key areas such as ponds and reservoirs and areas prone to geological disasters, and to carry out defense work effectively.
