Recently, it was learned from the Municipal Flood Control and Drought Relief Office that since last winter and this spring, Kunming has experienced less rainfall, temperatures higher than usual for the same period, continuously declining reservoir and pond storage, and rapidly developing meteorological drought. To effectively respond to the drought, the water affairs department has strengthened water resource scheduling, fully implemented water-saving measures, and the whole city has been working at full capacity to advance urban and rural drought relief emergency projects.

Facing the current drought, Kunming's main urban area has fully tapped available water sources in the region, activating sources such as the Liziping Pumping Station, Haiyuan Temple in Wuhua District, Qinglong Cave in Dabanqiao, and Heilong Pond in Chenggong, and implementing the Songhuaba Reservoir low-water-level water intake project, the Deze Reservoir low-water-level lifting and utilization project, and the Central Yunnan Water Diversion Phase II supporting project diverting water from the Central Yunnan Water Diversion to Songhuaba. Through these measures, the main urban area's water supply guarantee capacity has been further enhanced. At the same time, county towns and rural areas are accelerating the construction of drought relief emergency projects. Seven county-town drought relief emergency projects have been implemented, including the Kunyang and Baofeng area drought relief emergency project in Jinning District and the Fumin County emergency deep well project, benefiting 450,000 county-town residents and effectively easing water supply pressure in county towns. Currently, the Anning City urban water supply emergency supplementary water source project and the Fumin County Huangpo Reservoir emergency water diversion project are under implementation; through these measures, county-town water supply guarantee capacity can be further enhanced.

In addition, Kunming is making every effort to accelerate the construction of rural drought relief and water supply guarantee emergency projects. At present, 87 rural drinking water guarantee emergency projects have been implemented, with 19 under construction. Once completed, these emergency projects will benefit 310,000 rural residents and 22,000 head of large livestock, while also helping to improve irrigation guarantee capacity for 85,000 mu of farmland.

The drought situation is tied to people's livelihoods, and guaranteeing water supply is guaranteeing livelihoods. Next, the city's water affairs and other departments will continue to optimize water resource allocation, conduct scientific scheduling, strengthen project element guarantees, and accelerate the construction of drought relief emergency water supply projects to meet the public's drinking water needs. Here, we also call on all citizens to save water, actively engage in water-saving practices, and jointly win the "critical battle" of drought relief and water supply guarantee.
