Shandong Adds Another Yellow River Crossing

　　On March 26, amid the strident melody of vehicle horns, the Jianbang Liaotai Yellow River Highway-Railway Bridge and its highway connecting works—currently the public-rail dual-purpose bridge with the largest span of flat-chord steel truss girders in China, whose testing was undertaken in part by China Railway 14th Bureau Group Tiezheng Company—was completed and opened to traffic.

　　The Jianbang Liaotai Yellow River Highway-Railway Bridge and its highway connecting works are the controlling project of the Liaotai Railway. Tiezheng Company was mainly responsible for the completion quality inspection and load testing of the bridge and the approach bridges on both banks' highway connecting lines in the Pingyin and Dong'e sections, the completion quality inspection of the main bridge, and the pre-opening load test of the main bridge. The main inspection tasks included dozens of parameters such as subgrade deflection, drainage works cross-sectional dimensions, and culvert concrete strength.
　　This load test involved a complex bridge type and was highly difficult to inspect. Led by a steel truss bridge technical expert, the team built a MIDAS model to closely simulate on-site conditions and selected spans reasonably in accordance with specifications and design requirements, ensuring that all main load-bearing members fell within the test scope. Three rapid intelligent integrated testers were deployed on site for automated strain measurement at each control section, and one non-contact, target-free, static-dynamic integrated photoelectric deflectometer was deployed for deflection testing. For the dynamic load test, long-distance, high-power, long-endurance wireless vibration test modules were selected, enabling synchronous testing of multiple test sections. The use of numerous automated devices greatly shortened the inspection period.
　　"Through static load and dynamic performance tests, the strength and stiffness of the main bridge test sections both meet design requirements, and the dynamic characteristics and dynamic response are normal." At around 5 a.m. on March 20, with the report from on-site inspectors, the bridge successfully passed its pre-opening "physical examination."

Load test

　　The load test is not only a necessary key step before the bridge opens to traffic, but also provides an important basic technical basis for subsequent completion acceptance, operation and maintenance, and health monitoring, and offers an important reference for the inspection of other similar bridges.
　　This bridge crosses the Yellow River, connecting Pingyin County of Jinan City and Dong'e County of Liaocheng City, becoming another convenient and smooth cross-Yellow River passage between the two cities of Jinan and Liaocheng.
