The reporter learned from China Railway Shanghai Group Co., Ltd. that at 12:58 on March 27, at the construction site on the water surface of the north branch channel of the Yangtze River estuary in Qidong, four tanker trucks at the two main piers poured concrete simultaneously. After more than two days of continuous construction, the first pouring of the pile caps for main piers No. 3 and No. 4 of the Chongqi Highway-Railway Yangtze River Bridge was completed, marking major progress in the bridge's foundation construction.
The Chongqi Highway-Railway Yangtze River Bridge is a controlling node project of the Shanghai-Nanjing-Hefei High-Speed Railway, with a total length of 4.09 kilometers, spanning the north branch channel of the Yangtze River estuary. It is a double-deck highway-railway bridge, with the upper deck carrying a two-way six-lane first-class highway at 100 km/h, and the lower deck carrying a double-track high-speed railway at 350 km/h plus a double-track intercity railway at 250 km/h. The bridge is divided into the main navigation span bridge, non-navigation span bridges, north and south bank combined highway-railway approach bridges, and north and south bank railway-only approach bridges; among them, the main navigation span bridge is a cable-stayed bridge with a 400-meter main span, two towers, and double cable planes, using a steel truss composite girder, and is the world's largest-span cable-stayed bridge for highway-railway dual use with ballastless track and two towers and double cable planes. Main pier No. 3 and main pier No. 4 of the main navigation span bridge are the south main tower foundation and north main tower foundation, respectively. The bridge is managed for construction by Shanghai-Hangzhou Passenger Dedicated Line Company and constructed by China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group.

It is reported that main piers No. 3 and No. 4 of the Chongqi Highway-Railway Yangtze River Bridge are both designed with double-wall steel cofferdam structures. Pile cap construction is carried out inside the cofferdams. The pile cap has a plan dimension of 71.271 m × 43.45 m and a height of 7.5 m, with an area equivalent to seven standard basketball courts. A total of more than 2,050 tons of steel reinforcement and 16,500 cubic meters of concrete are required. To ensure pile cap construction quality, the project department adopted mass concrete construction technology during construction, pouring in three stages from bottom to top. This construction was the first pouring operation for the pile cap, with a total of 6,370 cubic meters of concrete poured and a pouring height of 2.5 meters.
Due to the large volume of concrete poured and the high density of steel reinforcement, technical difficulties such as a sharp rise in concrete temperature may occur. The construction management unit, Shanghai-Hangzhou Passenger Dedicated Line Company, organized the project team of the construction unit, China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group, to scientifically formulate a plan, actively allocate resources, and exercise full-process control over the construction procedures. Construction personnel adopted the measure of embedding cooling water pipes and set up multiple temperature control points in the pile cap. After concrete pouring, based on real-time monitoring data from each temperature control point, the water flow rate in the cooling water pipes was dynamically adjusted for cooling treatment, avoiding problems such as uneven heat dissipation in mass concrete.

The Shanghai-Nanjing-Hefei High-Speed Railway is the eastern section of the Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu High-Speed Railway and an important component of the Yangtze River corridor of the national "Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal" high-speed railway network. It undertakes the transport of main network passenger flows along the Yangtze River corridor and part of the through passenger flows to Shanghai from the coastal and Beijing-Shanghai corridors. After the project is completed, it will establish a new rapid corridor among the Shanghai metropolitan area, Nanjing metropolitan area, and Hefei metropolitan area, and is of great significance for optimizing the layout of the railway network in the Yangtze River region, serving the coordinated development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and promoting high-quality integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta.
