"3, 2, 1, detonate!" Recently... as the blasting command was issued, a deep and rumbling boom echoed from within the Jiangzishan mountain body, announcing the complete success of the first tunnel blasting operation on the Xuanjing Expressway. This also marks that tunnel construction on the Xuanjing Expressway has begun to move onto the "fast lane."
That morning, a thin mist shrouded the land like a light gauze. At the tunnel portal on the mountainside of Jiangzishan, there was already a bustling scene of intense activity. Huge mechanical arms swung in the morning light, tracing vigorous and powerful arcs across the construction site. Workers, dressed in conspicuous safety uniforms and holding pneumatic rock drills, operated skillfully and attentively. As the blast holes were drilled one by one and the explosive loading work steadily advanced, the preparations before blasting gradually drew to a close.
When the blasting command came, the explosives in the blast holes were instantly ignited, and the tremendous impact force instantly shattered the hardest part of the rock, opening a passage for the smooth excavation of the tunnel. Fifteen minutes after the blasting ended, the workers quickly threw themselves into post-blast safety inspections and debris clearing, and the construction site once again returned to a busy yet orderly rhythm. According to Xu Tenghui, deputy chief engineer of the on-site project for Section 01 of Phase II of the Xuanjing Expressway of Anhui Road & Bridge: "Outside the tunnel we can only hear the sound of the blasting and can barely see any blasting dust, because this blasting adopted digital detonator control technology, which can precisely control the release of blasting energy, minimize the impact on the surrounding environment, and ensure that the blasting process is safe, efficient, and environmentally friendly."
"This blasting is a milestone for the tunnel construction of the Xuanjing Expressway, meaning that our tunnel construction has entered the stage of tackling key difficulties and accelerating." Project manager Li Chunchun told the reporter that since construction began in November last year, Section 01 of Phase II of the Xuanjing Expressway has completed 21% of the total progress. The project department will continue to increase construction efforts, optimize the construction plan, and ensure the quality and progress of the project. In addition, they will continue to strengthen the organization and management of the construction site and the safety supervision mechanism, striving to ensure that nothing goes wrong while building efficiently, and contributing to the safe travel of the people and the prosperous development of the regional economy.
"The Xuanjing Expressway project starts from the South Ring Section of the Xuanguang Expressway in Xuancheng City and ends where it connects with the S11 Wuhuang Expressway, with a total length of 51.27 kilometers. Once completed, it will become an important transportation link connecting Xuancheng with surrounding areas." Staff of the Xuanjing Expressway project office told the reporter that the Xuanjing Expressway project is being built in two phases: Phase I has a total length of 40 kilometers and Phase II has a total length of 11.27 kilometers, with construction officially starting in 2022 and 2023 respectively. Phase I is expected to be completed and opened to traffic in 2024, and Phase II in 2025.
As an important component of the "Horizontal Nine" in the province's "Five Vertical and Ten Horizontal" plan, the Xuanjing Expressway, once completed, will achieve "one-hour access between the city and counties" of Xuancheng, greatly shorten travel time between Xuancheng and surrounding areas, and provide solid support for strengthening the interconnection of the Yangtze River Delta region and the future development of southern Anhui.
