Machines roar and workers work overtime... At the beginning of the new spring, water conservancy projects in Hunan Xiangjiang New Area are running at full capacity and being vigorously advanced. On March 7, at the construction site of the Connecting Line Project (Wangyue Lake Section on the Right Bank of Longwanggang), a bustling scene of construction was in full swing, with more than 30 workers pressing ahead with the construction schedule without pause.

　　The Connecting Line Project (Wangyue Lake Section on the Right Bank of Longwanggang) officially started on November 2, 2023. The levee treatment has a total length of 694 meters and a total investment of 89.4391 million yuan, and is being upgraded to meet the 200-year flood control standard. The main construction content includes new wave protection walls, replacement and backfilling of levee body soil and seepage prevention and reinforcement of the levee foundation, demolition of the mortar rubble retaining wall on the landward side, new retaining piles, a new flood control passage, ecological restoration and vegetation rehabilitation, etc.

　　"At present, the plastic concrete seepage cutoff wall on the water-facing side, a key part of the project, has been fully completed, and the bored cast-in-place pile construction on the landward side has been fully launched. Overall visual progress has reached 80%, and the project has basically met the conditions for passing the flood season," said Li Xiongbiao, the on-site project manager. Workers operate in three shifts per day to fully guarantee 24-hour construction, striving to complete the main works and water-related works before April to ensure flood season safety.

　　When mentioning the difficulties encountered in the project construction, Li Xiongbiao said, "This project has a tight schedule, a narrow construction work area, high requirements for seepage prevention and reinforcement of the levee foundation, and is close to residential areas. With the strong support of departments and streets and towns, as well as the understanding of nearby residents, the project proceeded smoothly. Hydraulic grab machines and other machinery were introduced to improve construction efficiency, and the project was successfully completed more than 120 days ahead of schedule. It is expected to be officially completed in mid-July."

　　It is reported that after the project is completed, the urban flood control closure loop of Changsha City will basically be formed, effectively reducing flood control pressure in the Wangyue Lake area, enhancing regional flood control capacity, further safeguarding people's lives and property, and providing strong support for the regional development of Xiangjiang New Area.

　　According to the New Area Bureau of Agriculture, Rural Affairs and Ecological Environment, in the past winter and this spring the New Area arranged 77 key winter water conservancy projects. At present, all streets and towns are seizing the golden period for winter water conservancy work, mobilizing at every level and advancing vigorously. Overall progress has reached 60%, which will provide a solid barrier for safe passage through this year's flood season and effective guarantees for agricultural production and irrigation. "Under the premise of ensuring project quality and construction safety, the New Area's water conservancy projects are accelerating construction progress to ensure safe passage through the flood season and agricultural irrigation, and to help increase agricultural output and income," the New Area Bureau of Agriculture, Rural Affairs and Ecological Environment introduced.
