On March 8, in recent days, as temperatures gradually warmed up, flocks of birds have gathered at the Shanyin Sanggan River National Wetland Park in Shuozhou City, Shanxi Province. Large numbers of migratory birds heading north—including whooper swans, ruddy shelducks, mallards, and spot-billed ducks—soar above the wetlands, drift across the water, or rest among the vegetation, fully displaying the beauty of ecology.

Birds are an important component of natural ecosystems and play a very important role in maintaining the balance and stability of ecosystems. With the implementation of wetland protection and restoration projects, the Sanggan River wetland ecosystem has been effectively protected, the diversity of wetland organisms and landscapes has been significantly enhanced and improved, and the wetland water area has gradually expanded, providing good habitats for wild birds and other wildlife.
In recent years, Shanyin County, a "small town north of the Great Wall," has continuously intensified its efforts in ecological development and wetland protection. The natural environment of the Shanyin Sanggan River National Wetland Park has improved markedly, attracting large numbers of rare birds to breed, inhabit, and stop over here. Today, this place has become an important stopover and habitat for bird migration.

Huang Hua, a publicity and education officer at the Management and Protection Center of the Shanyin Sanggan River National Wetland Park, said that in early March the wetland park ushers in the peak period of wildlife migration, and the species and numbers of migratory birds resting here have increased greatly compared with previous years.
According to daily observations at the Shanyin Sanggan River National Wetland Park, the number of migratory birds of various types heading north that have inhabited the area this year has reached several thousand, the highest in recent years. The tremendous improvement in the ecological environment has created a suitable living environment for birds, and some migratory birds have become resident birds, making their homes in the wetlands.

"As the migratory birds arrive, we have intensified personnel patrols, set up fencing nets along both sides of the river channel, and installed high-definition cameras to minimize human disturbance as much as possible and provide a good habitat for the migratory birds," said Zhang Wenjie, deputy director of the Management and Protection Center of the Shanyin Sanggan River National Wetland Park.
