On March 6, the first set of E-Navigation bridge "intelligent early warning system" installed on the Baotong Bridge of the Shajing Qinjiang Bridge—the gateway to the sea entrance of the Pinglu Canal—was officially put into operation by the Beihai Aids to Navigation Office of the Nanhai Navigation Safety Administration under the Ministry of Transport. After 30 days of on-site testing, the system can greatly enhance bridge safety and provide more reliable technical support for ship navigation and bridge collision prevention.

The photo shows the maritime department conducting ship traffic management in the waters of the Shajing Bridge on the Pinglu Canal.

This bridge "intelligent early warning system" adopts technologies such as the Automatic Identification System (AIS), Very High Frequency (VHF) communication system, and Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) monitoring system to remind and assist ship navigation through multiple means. Based on the ship traffic organization of the Pinglu Canal and the actual needs during construction, multi-level electronic fence warning zones such as "isolation zone," "warning zone," and "operation zone" were set up in the E-Navigation water traffic early warning system. The integrated CCTV and the Beibu Gulf aids-to-navigation monitoring platform form a strong complement, enabling dynamic monitoring of ships, aids to navigation, and other traffic elements in the bridge area.

According to Li Shibin, head of the Qinzhou Aids to Navigation Management Station of the Beihai Aids to Navigation Office under the Nanhai Navigation Safety Administration of the Ministry of Transport, during the installation and testing phase, the system sent a total of 291 safety reminder messages and issued 173 construction area warnings, effectively verifying its effectiveness in ensuring ship navigation safety during the bridge construction period. The official operation of the system enriches the means of navigation safety early warning in bridge waters, gives the bridge an "intelligent brain," and will enable full use of big data analysis and modern monitoring methods to accurately determine ship navigation positions, provide multi-dimensional and all-round real-time monitoring for channel safety, and offer reliable and stable technical support for navigation safety in the bridge area.

Zhou Ai, deputy director of the Qinzhou Maritime Safety Administration, said that as the vital passage for the Pinglu Canal into Maowei Sea, the Shajing Qinjiang Bridge is undergoing "two builds and two demolitions." Strengthening navigation management and traffic organization during the renovation and upgrading period and preventing ships from colliding with the bridge are particularly important. The maritime and navigation safety departments took proactive action, closely focused on the construction content, carefully prepared the deployment plan for navigation aids, and worked overtime to efficiently complete the installation and technical measurement of navigation safety facilities. They removed 10 aids to navigation originally deployed at the Shajing Qinjiang Bridge and deployed 18 construction side buoys and bridge navigation aids for the Baotong Bridge, providing solid navigation safety support for ships navigating in these waters.
