China-Singapore Fact Check: Can Eating Too Many Cherries Cause Iron Poisoning?

It is very rare to consume excessive iron through a normal diet. Take cherries, for example: this fruit has a low iron content. According to data from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the iron content per 100 grams of cherries is only 0.36 milligrams. This is considerably lower than that of other iron-rich foods (such as red meat, beans, and certain green leafy vegetables), and we never have this kind of worry when eating those foods—so why worry about cherries? However, eating any food in excess may lead to health problems, including gastrointestinal discomfort or elevated blood sugar levels. Therefore, although cherries are delicious, we should not eat too many of them at one time. (Source: @Science Rumor Refutation @China News Service)
