The Guangming Tunnel, which connects Sichuan and Chongqing in one continuous passage, is a control project of the Chongqing section of the Chengdu-Dazhou-Wanzhou High-Speed Railway, with a total length of 8,648 meters and a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour. Starting from January 1, 2023, the tunnel advanced more than 1,800 meters in just one year.
During the Spring Festival, workers of the 15th bid section of the Chengdu-Dazhou-Wanzhou Railway under China Railway Beijing Engineering Group Co., Ltd. remained on duty continuously, identifying and addressing hidden hazards to ensure construction safety during the holiday.
The Guangming Tunnel runs across the hilly area among the parallel ridge-and-valley region of eastern Sichuan, where the terrain undulates considerably and the landforms are complex. The geology and lithology are dominated by mudstone and sandstone, and along the route there are various adverse geological conditions such as gas, karst, fractured zones, and dangerous rockfalls.
Taking the high-risk gas problem that has plagued project construction as an example, construction workers need to test the gas concentration inside the tunnel every day and maintain uninterrupted ventilation around the clock, creating conditions for machinery and personnel to enter the site.
On the eighth day of the first lunar month, project management personnel had successively returned to their posts. Starting from the twelfth day of the first lunar month, at construction sites in the Chongqing section including the Guangming Tunnel entrance, Taihe Village No. 1 Tunnel, Taihe Village No. 2 Tunnel, Heshui Dam Bridge, and Nanhe Bridge, more than 200 construction workers had taken their positions.
