Engineering vehicles shuttle back and forth, machinery roars, and construction workers are busy... The Chongqing Wankai Expressway project is accelerating to achieve a strong start in the first quarter.

“To the right, a bit more to the right, still 5 centimeters from the center of the pile foundation...” At the end of Zhaizipo Bridge on the Wankai Expressway, on-site technician Luo Huanyu is directing a 25-ton crane to hoist a reinforcement cage and adjust its position to recheck the pile foundation reinforcement cage.

Zhaizipo Bridge, with a total length of 677 meters, is located in a mountainous area with complex geology and difficult construction. To ensure the construction progress of the bridge's substructure, the project department established a special construction task force, optimized the construction organization, refined the workflow, and minimized the time for connecting each process. Since the start of construction, Zhaizipo Bridge has become the first work site on the entire line to drill the first pile foundation and take the lead in entering the bridge substructure construction.

“To ensure rapid resumption of work and production after the holiday, the project department stored and processed important materials such as steel bars and beam-making materials before the holiday, and planned in advance for the return of workers, ensuring that the project could quickly resume work after the holiday,” said Yang Shengfei, head of the First Work Area of the Wankai Expressway Project of China Railway 25th Bureau Group.

Currently, all project department staff and on-site construction workers are in place and engaged in construction. Zhaizipo Bridge is expected to complete the first T-beam erection task in early April this year.

It is understood that the Wankai Expressway is a section of the G5012 Enshi-Guangyuan National Expressway, starting near Lushan in Wanzhou District, Chongqing, and ending near Nanya Town in Kaizhou, with a total length of 50.8 kilometers. It is designed as a two-way four-lane expressway with a design speed of 100 kilometers per hour. After completion, it will connect with the G42 Shanghai-Chengdu Expressway and become the main channel linking the northeastern Chongqing and northeastern Sichuan regions. Once the Wankai Expressway is completed, the travel time from Wanzhou to Kaijiang will be shortened to within half an hour.
