To further improve the urban transportation system and facilitate public travel, the Phase II rail transit project—a key project in the provincial capital's urban renewal—is advancing at full speed. At present, 18 stations of the Phase I Line 4 project, 11 stations of the Phase I Line 5 project, and 7 stations of the Phase I Line 6 project have entered the main construction stage.

On February 19, at the construction site of Nandou Station in Work Zone 03 of the Phase I Line 6 rail transit project, builders from China Railway No. 3 Engineering Group were carrying out retaining pile construction and utility relocation work, presenting a bustling scene. "At present, the project has entered the main retaining structure construction stage, and preliminary works such as greenery relocation and the relocation of rainwater, sewage, gas, communications, and water supply pipelines are also being accelerated in parallel," said a relevant person in charge of the project. Nandou Station has a total of 299 retaining piles, of which 188 have been completed; all are scheduled to be finished by the end of March, after which construction of the crown beams and retaining walls will proceed.

According to reports, Nandou Station is located at the intersection of Kunlun Avenue and Jinshajiang Road, arranged along the north-south direction. The station has a total length of 180 meters, a standard-section foundation pit width of 22.7 meters and a depth of about 25 meters. It is a three-level underground island-type station with a three-level, three-span frame structure, a building area of about 16,425 square meters, two entrances/exits and two sets of ventilation pavilions, and is constructed using the open-cut sequential method.

The Phase I Line 6 project of Shijiazhuang Rail Transit starts from Ershilipu Station and ends at Dongzuolu Station, running along Huai Middle Road—Yuhua East Road—Kunlun Avenue, with a total length of about 12.75 kilometers and 9 stations, including 2 transfer stations: Liucun Station transfers with the existing Line 1, and Nandou Station transfers with the existing Line 3. The line effectively fills the gap in rail transit in the southeastern area of Shijiazhuang, will guide the central urban area in expanding from a single center to multiple centers, promote passenger flow distribution, and help realize the city's overall planning layout.

In 2023, Shijiazhuang's Phase II rail transit project sounded the call for comprehensive construction. The Phase II project has a total construction scale of 58.85 kilometers, mainly including the Phase I projects of Lines 4, 5, and 6 as well as the Phase III project of Line 1. All lines are underground and mainly cover Qiaoxi, Yuhua, Xinhua, Chang'an, Luquan, Luancheng and other districts. They will further optimize the urban spatial structure, promote coordinated regional development, enhance urban functional quality, refresh the people's travel "happiness index," and help improve the city's development level and comprehensive carrying capacity.

Since the provincial capital entered the "subway era," through unremitting efforts, the mileage of subway lines built and put into operation has reached 78.2 kilometers. The Phase I plan has basically been completed, initially forming a rail transit network skeleton running through the southeast, northwest, and center. As subway operation and management levels continue to improve, the subway's aggregation effect has become more apparent, not only alleviating urban traffic pressure but also "quietly" expanding the city's radius.

"Now I take the subway to and from work. It arrives precisely on time, is warm in winter and cool in summer, comfortable to ride, and saves me the trouble of road congestion and finding parking spaces when driving," said Ms. Liu, who was preparing to transfer to Line 2 at Beiguo Mall Station on Subway Line 1. Today, as a convenient green public transport option, the subway has become part of residents' daily lives.

"Shijiazhuang has historically presented the construction scene of 'four lines under construction simultaneously.' After the Phase II subway project is completed, the provincial capital's rail transit operating mileage will reach about 140 kilometers, further improving the provincial capital's road network transportation system," said a relevant person in charge of the Municipal Rail Transit Group under Shijiazhuang Communications Investment Group. In the future, service levels will be further improved, and the important role of rail transit in optimizing urban layout, alleviating urban congestion, enhancing urban taste, and demonstrating urban civilization will be fully leveraged. At the same time, we will continue to uphold the striving spirit of "achieving success in Shijiazhuang through hard work, with no one but us," accelerate the construction of the Phase II rail transit project, continuously improve the rail transit network, and contribute to accelerating the building of a modern, international, and beautiful provincial capital city.

At present, Shijiazhuang's Line 4 rail transit project has the fastest overall progress; all 20 stations of the Phase I project have entered construction, of which 18 stations have entered the main construction stage. In addition, other lines are also being accelerated intensively: the Phase I Line 5 project has 19 stations in total, 15 of which have entered construction, and 11 of which have entered the main construction stage; all 9 stations of the Phase I Line 6 project have entered construction, and 7 of them have entered the main construction stage; the Phase III Line 1 project has 2 stations in total, of which Shangzhuang Station has entered the main construction stage.
