　　"At present, what difficulties has the county encountered in rural sewage treatment? How is the toilet revolution progressing?" Not long ago, Hu Xiaoling, a deputy to the National People's Congress and Party branch secretary of Huanglian Village, Longquan Tujia Ethnic Township, Xuanhan County, Sichuan Province, once again came to the relevant departments of Xuanhan County to research rural sewage treatment work. Over the past year, Hu Xiaoling has focused on rural areas of Xuanhan County to gain an in-depth understanding of the improvement of rural living environments.

　　During one research visit, Hu Xiaoling came to the home of villager Zhang Xuecheng in Group 2 of Huanglian Village, where the family was busy in their newly built kitchen. Hu Xiaoling noticed that the water used to wash vegetables flowed directly through the drain into the ditch in front of the house, with oil floating on the surface. "Our domestic sewage can only be discharged directly into the ditch in front of the door; in summer the smell is really bad," Zhang Xuecheng said. Hu Xiaoling took note of this and kept it in mind.

　　Not long after, Hu Xiaoling visited the home of villager Liu Futai in Group 3 of Huanglian Village. "We don't know how to deal with household waste now. Burning it on the spot or dumping it outside won't work either—it affects the ecological environment. Centralized treatment is costly because we live scattered. What should we do?" Liu Futai said.

　　Hu Xiaoling knew that properly handling sewage and waste could not be achieved overnight. To this end, she visited many villages and communities in Sichuan and also went to Yunnan, Guizhou and other places to learn. In her research notes, she wrote down her insights and reflections: it is necessary to ascertain the current situation of sewage, using "one form per village" to conduct a baseline survey of the volume of rural sewage generated, the discharge of black water and gray water, and the water environment; it is necessary to improve the operation and maintenance management system for rural domestic sewage treatment facilities...

　　"The rural household waste transfer system has been effectively strengthened." "The problem of direct discharge of human and livestock waste is gradually being improved."... In early February, Hu Xiaoling visited departments including the Xuanhan County Ecological Environment Bureau and the County Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau with issues of concern to the people, and the research results gratified her. "Hardship and fatigue are nothing; what matters is expressing the voices of the people and ensuring that the issues they care about are resolved promptly," Hu Xiaoling said.
