Education departments across various regions have recently successively issued public notices regarding the establishment of undergraduate higher education institutions. Multiple new universities, including the Greater Bay Area University, have been approved for establishment, and universities such as the Beijing Institute of Technology Zhuhai Campus will begin enrollment this year. Among the majors offered by these universities, engineering programs such as new energy and engineering technology account for the vast majority.
Starting this year, the Beijing Institute of Technology Zhuhai Campus will successively carry out enrollment for undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs, with the expected student population reaching more than 20,000. According to the plan, the campus will establish an Undergraduate School, a Graduate School, a School of International Education, a Greater Bay Area Innovation Research Institute, and a Science and Technology Park.
Also launching enrollment this year are the Shenzhen University of Advanced Technology, the School of Music of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen), and the Shenzhen Institute of Innovation and Creative Design. Among them, the Shenzhen University of Advanced Technology will establish an integrated undergraduate-master's-doctoral talent cultivation system, with plans to reach 3,000 full-time students by 2025.
In addition, new universities such as the Greater Bay Area University, Shanxi Culture and Tourism Vocational University, Fuyao University of Science and Technology, and Changchun Automotive Vocational and Technical University have also been approved for establishment.
A review by reporters found that the majors offered by these universities are mainly engineering-oriented. To better serve the industrial layout and development needs of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Beijing Institute of Technology Zhuhai Campus has set up more than 10 discipline directions, including information and communication, intelligent manufacturing, and aerospace, with over 70 percent being engineering majors. The first batch of enrollment majors at the Shenzhen University of Advanced Technology involves fields such as computer science and technology, biomedical engineering, and materials science and engineering. The Changchun Automotive Vocational and Technical University was established by integrating resources on the basis of Changchun Automobile Industry Institute, and will initially offer 6 vocational undergraduate programs, all of which are engineering majors, including new energy vehicle engineering technology, intelligent connected vehicle engineering technology, robotics technology, automotive service engineering technology, logistics engineering technology, and mechanical design, manufacturing, and automation.
