The roar of machinery, forests of tower cranes, and shuttling vehicles... During this Spring Festival holiday, many project sites stayed "open for business," with numerous construction workers holding the front line to speed up project construction, interpreting a "different kind of New Year flavor."
Scene: "Things are quite busy on the site, so I'll go home to be with you after the New Year." On the eve of the Spring Festival, Dong Tianhui, a welder on the Peking University People's Hospital Xiong'an Campus project, called his family to let them know.
During the Spring Festival, the project ran at full capacity, with construction workers battling the cold and ensuring progress, and the site buzzing with activity.
As a landmark project for relieving Beijing of non-capital functions, in order to ensure the project is accelerated into place and forms an important demonstration and leading effect for the relocation, the construction unit did not stop work during the Spring Festival and kept construction "open for business," going all out to advance the project. A person in charge of the project said: "The project department arranged 'staggered' New Year holidays for the construction workers, so that they can reunite with their families after completing the Spring Festival construction tasks. During the Spring Festival, we organized a series of activities under the theme 'The site stays open, celebrate the New Year at the construction site,' distributed gifts to the workers, and organized workers to paste up fu characters and make dumplings, creating a joyful, festive and harmonious Spring Festival atmosphere."
Scene: "Because of work needs, I chose to stay at the construction site, and my family all expressed understanding. I plan to go home and reunite with my family once this busy period is over!" said Guan Tian'en, a shield machine operator from Yuncheng, Shanxi.
Guan Tian'en is a shield machine operator on the Century Avenue utility tunnel project in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province. Because continuous construction is required after the shield machine is launched, he chose to stay on site on duty during the Spring Festival, responsible for maintaining pressure and advancing the shield machine and for segment assembly operations, ensuring that all systems of the shield machine remain in good condition during the Spring Festival.
"From New Year's Eve to the fourth day of the first lunar month, our main construction work consisted of the process conversion for shield reception and the maintenance and pressure-holding of the shield machine. During this period, we arranged for 5 management personnel and 10 workers to stay on site for operations. Starting from the fifth day, management personnel and workers gradually returned to the site. As of the seventh day, 100% of management personnel were back on duty, and about 80% of the workers for shield reception construction were back. It is expected that after the sixteenth day of the first lunar month, the entire project can return to normal daily working conditions." The project manager said that once completed, the project will help integrate and put underground the overhead lines along the route, intensively and economically use spatial resources, reserve valuable space for urban development, and enhance urban quality.
Scene: "These past few days, I have been conducting high-strength concrete mix proportion experiments with my master to prepare for subsequent construction." Qi Zeyang, who is spending the New Year at a construction site for the first time, said with both excitement and pride.
The site where Qi Zeyang works is the Renhe Road Old City Renovation Project Zones B and C in Qingdao, Shandong Province. To ensure the project is delivered as early as possible, dozens of construction workers and the project management team chose to hold the front line during the Spring Festival. During the Spring Festival, the project's chief technical engineer led the technical team in using BIM technology for three-dimensional visual disclosure, planning material processing and delivery routes in advance, and rationally zoning and carrying out flow-line operations, greatly improving construction efficiency.
"The project is close to a seafood wholesale market, where traffic and foot traffic never stop day or night. In order to avoid as much as possible construction vehicles competing with social vehicles for road and space resources, we seized the window of the market's off-season during the Spring Festival holiday to minimize the impact on surrounding traffic. After the Spring Festival, we will arrange staggered time off for everyone." The project manager said that during the Spring Festival, the project department specially prepared a sumptuous New Year's Eve dinner and hot dumplings for the workers staying behind, so that the builders holding the front line could also feel the festive joy and harmony.
Scene: "This is a school project, a livelihood project built for the children. I feel especially motivated staying here to work." said Jiang Pinyang, a worker from Xiangyang, Hubei.
During the Spring Festival, at the Chengnan Campus project site of Xiamen No. 2 Foreign Language School in Fujian Province, more than 60 construction workers were carrying out base slab waterproofing and rebar tying work, presenting a scene of bustling activity.
At present, 90% of the base slab rebar tying work on the project has been completed, effectively guaranteeing the subsequent work process. "On the premise of ensuring safety and quality, we are accelerating construction progress as much as possible to ensure the task is completed with both quality and quantity guaranteed." The project manager stated that they stocked up sufficient rebar consumables before the holiday and arranged for more than 60% of workers to be on duty during the Spring Festival holiday, while management personnel from the agent construction, supervision and construction units were also arranged to be on duty to ensure normal construction. For workers staying in Xiamen for the New Year, in addition to providing overtime subsidies, the project department also gave out New Year gift packages, letting the workers feel the full flavor of the New Year.
Scene: "This year, my wife and child came to the construction site to find me, and the whole family celebrated the New Year right here on site!" said Fu Hongqiang, project manager of the construction unit for the Changle Airport Comprehensive Passenger Transport Hub.
During the Spring Festival holiday, some project departments encouraged workers' families to reunite in reverse direction, and the Changle Airport Comprehensive Passenger Transport Hub project in Fuzhou, Fujian Province is one of them. Due to the tight schedule and heavy tasks of the project, Fu Hongqiang has had little time to go home since arriving in Fuzhou. This Spring Festival, he decided to reunite with his family on the construction site and also take the opportunity to experience the coastal charm and rich New Year flavor of the blessed city of Fuzhou.
Equally heartwarming is that the project department paid wages for January in full before the New Year. During the Spring Festival, while guaranteeing overtime pay, they also organized a rich variety of activities: indoors, a New Year's Eve dinner bringing together northern and southern specialty flavors was set out on a large round table, and the construction workers sat around together, raising their glasses in celebration, taking stock of the year's gains and chatting about next year's construction plans and personal plans.
Ordinary jobs, extraordinary people. Salute to every "front-line stayer" during the Spring Festival holiday!
