On the 20th, the Supreme People's Procuratorate of China reported on the progress of the case involving Sun Shutao, former member of the Party Leadership Group and vice chairman of the Shandong Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), who is suspected of accepting bribes. As designated by the Supreme People's Procuratorate, the case was reviewed and prosecuted by the Datong Municipal People's Procuratorate of Shanxi Province.

Recently, the Datong Municipal People's Procuratorate has filed a public prosecution with the Datong Intermediate People's Court. The procuratorial organ's indictment alleges that the defendant Sun Shutao took advantage of his positions as deputy head of the Organization Department of the Shandong Provincial Party Committee, deputy secretary of the Weihai Municipal Party Committee, mayor and secretary of the Weihai Municipal Party Committee, deputy secretary of the Jinan Municipal Party Committee and mayor of Jinan, and member of the Party Leadership Group and vice chairman of the Shandong Provincial CPPCC to seek benefits for others, and also took advantage of the convenient conditions created by his own authority and position to seek improper benefits for others through the official acts of other state functionaries, and illegally accepted property from others in extremely large amounts. He should be held criminally responsible for the crime of accepting bribes in accordance with the law.

Public information shows that Sun Shutao was born in January 1965 and is a native of Shandong. He became deputy head of the Organization Department of the Shandong Provincial Party Committee in February 2001. In January 2023, he was elected vice chairman of the Shandong Provincial CPPCC; in March of the same year, officials announced that he was under investigation while in office.

According to the investigation, Sun Shutao "obtained high returns on wealth management through private business owners, used his authority to seek profits for his relatives' business activities, and engaged heavily in power-sex and money-sex transactions." He was also accused of "having a distorted view of political achievements, falsifying economic data in pursuit of personal advancement," "wanting to be an official while also seeking to get rich," and "illegally accepting gifts and consumption cards," among other things.
