The reporter learned from the 2024 Tianjin Municipal Transport Work Conference held a few days ago that in 2023, Tianjin's highway and waterway freight turnover increased by 14.1% and 2.9% year-on-year respectively; Tianjin Port's container throughput reached 22.187 million TEUs, up 5.5% year-on-year; Tianjin Airport's passenger throughput reached 18.473 million person-times, up 216.2% year-on-year; rail transit averaged 1.7 million passenger trips per day, with the highest single-day passenger volume reaching 2.2318 million person-times, providing strong transport support for Tianjin's economic recovery and improvement.

Over the past year, Tianjin completed 9 projects, started construction on 14 projects, and accelerated the implementation of 11 projects throughout the year. The comprehensive three-dimensional transport network has been accelerated and improved, Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei transport has become fully interconnected, the integrated development of port, industry and city has been advanced in an all-round way, and transport convenience service measures have been continuously deepened. The fourth high-speed railway between Beijing and Tianjin, the Tianjin-Xinglong intercity railway, was completed; the Beijing-Binhai intercity railway (southern section), Tianjin-Weifang high-speed railway, and Tianjin-Jinghai suburban railway are under accelerated construction; the total operating mileage of railways reached 1,468 kilometers, with network density ranking among the top in the country. The first "customized express bus" from Wuqing to Beijing was opened, the cross-provincial bus from Baodi to Xianghe was opened, and the cross-provincial bus from Jizhou to Sanhe was optimized. Five foreign trade routes were added, bringing the number of liner routes to 145; the first direct express route for South American cherries in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region was newly opened; the loaded container volume of intra-Bohai Rim feeder lines increased by 25.2% year-on-year; sea-rail intermodal transport volume reached 1.227 million TEUs; China-Europe (Central Asia) train volume reached 85,000 TEUs; the international cruise home port received more than 85,000 inbound and outbound passenger trips, ranking first in the country. Tianjin Airport resumed and increased international routes to Japan, South Korea and Southeast Asia as well as intercontinental routes to London and Belgrade, Serbia, and newly opened all-cargo charter routes to Inner Mongolia, among others, completing an annual passenger throughput of 18.473 million person-times, up 216.2% year-on-year. Non-local seniors aged 65 and above ride public buses for free; 35,000 additional individual ordinary vehicle lottery quotas were added; and about 1 billion yuan in expressway tolls were reduced or waived.

In 2024, Tianjin will accelerate the building of a modern, high-quality comprehensive transport system that is safe, convenient, efficient, green, economical, inclusive and resilient. A total of 39 projects are arranged, with planned fixed asset investment of 10 billion yuan. In terms of railways, Tianjin's first suburban railway, the Tianjin-Jinghai line, will be completed; the Huanghua-Wanxian railway electrification renovation project (Tianjin section) will be completed; the Tianjin-Weifang high-speed railway and the southern section of the Beijing-Binhai intercity railway will be accelerated; construction will start on the second track bundle of the Xingang North Container Center Station; and preliminary work will be carried out for the Huanghua-Wanxian railway capacity expansion and renovation project. In terms of highways, the relocation project of Tianjin Station on the Tianjin-Jizhou expressway will be completed within the year; the main body of the northern section of Phase II of the Tianjin-Qikou highway will be completed; the Xinggang expressway, the reconstruction and expansion project of the Beijing-Tianjin-Tanggu expressway (Tianjin section), and ordinary highways such as Hannan will be accelerated; and the construction of county-level roads such as Baiwan Road and Yida Road will be promoted. In terms of ports, the Phase II wharf of the Tianjin Marine Equipment Manufacturing Project, the container yard on the west side of Tianjin Port Huisheng Wharf, and the Hengyang Chemical Wharf and storage project will be completed.

In terms of strengthening the integrated development of port, industry and city, Tianjin Port's container throughput is expected to exceed 23 million TEUs in 2024, with container routes reaching 146. The construction of a dual-demonstration port featuring "road-to-rail conversion and bulk-to-container conversion" will be continuously advanced; new energy vehicles will be promoted for port collection and distribution; port wind power facilities will be built; and exploration will be carried out for the storage, transport and bunkering of methanol and other new energy marine fuels.

Focusing on ensuring smooth transport and unimpeded logistics, Tianjin will also continue to strengthen the high-quality development of comprehensive transport. The main body of the signal system renovation of Jinbin Light Rail Line 9 will be completed; the renovation of the bus hub at the north square of Tianjin Station will be completed; precise subsidies will be implemented for commuters on the Beijing-Tianjin intercity extension line; bus routes in Binhai New Area will be optimized; mutual recognition of bus and metro app payments between Tianjin and Binhai will be realized; and the Jinhan highway will be renovated. The first phase of Metro Line 11 will be completed and put into operation, and additional station entrances and exits such as Chenglin Road and Lijiang Road will be added. A total of 280 kilometers of rural roads and 8 rural road bridges will be repaired and renovated; 50 bus routes will be added or optimized; 5 smart parking lots will be built on unused corner plots along rail transit, providing no fewer than 300 parking spaces.
