Explosion at Dalian Youhao Square sends debris flying, injuring an elderly passerby. At around 11:00 on June 24, an underground heating pipeline in front of the Youhao Cinema at Youhao Square in Dalian, Liaoning Province, suddenly exploded, with thick smoke, hot air, and dust shooting more than 10 meters into the air. The massive blast force blew a hole more than 2 meters in diameter in the hard road surface, sending shattered stones flying everywhere. Many passing vehicles had their windows smashed and were left unrecognizable by the flying debris. It is understood that an elderly passerby was struck and injured by the stones and taken to hospital, and is believed to be out of danger. The cause of the explosion may have been pipeline aging and "fluctuation," and the relevant departments are investigating the accident.
