New Terminal at Los Angeles International Airport Opens, Costing $1.9 Billion

Arched zenith provides a good sense of space

The aging Los Angeles International Airport has undergone a renovation plan in recent years, expected to cost $4.1 billion. Los Angeles International Airport stated that this is the largest public works project in the history of Los Angeles, and the Bradley International Terminal is the first phase of the renovation plan, costing $1.9 billion, officially opened today.

After the renovation, the Bradley Terminal has taken on a completely new look, with many tourists stopping to take photos. In the terminal renovation plan, the "Villaraigosa Pavilion," specially named after former Mayor Villaraigosa, has become the center of the Bradley Terminal.

A passenger said that after the renovation, the new airport has taken on a completely new look, and they particularly like this design; the arched zenith gives a very good sense of space.

The City of Los Angeles and the airport also carefully arranged an opening ceremony. In addition to inviting elementary school children to play instruments and perform dances, the ceremony was also filled with flags of various countries.

Mayor and Council President attend the event

In his speech, Garcetti said that the huge number of international travelers each year will now have the first, last, and best impression of Los Angeles, from the airport's synchronized audio-visual system, then to shopping on Rodeo Drive, Los Angeles's boutique street, and they can also taste the best food in Los Angeles at the airport.

Those attending the ceremony today also included former Mayor Villaraigosa, Los Angeles City Council President Wesson Jr., City Councilmember Bonin, and Los Angeles Airport Chief Executive Officer Linsay, among others.

Los Angeles International Airport also specially arranged an aircraft ribbon-cutting ceremony. A Singapore Airlines flight that had just arrived at Los Angeles Airport used its nose to cut the prepared ribbon, symbolizing the completion and opening of the terminal renovation; Garcetti, Villaraigosa, and others also used large scissors to perform the traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony, bringing the opening ceremony to a close.
