January 24 (Report) — At present, with the development and application of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, while bringing new challenges to traditional management applications and scientific research, the healthcare industry is also facing enormous challenges. Disease risk prediction, 'face-scanning' medical visits, intelligent consultation... AI has increasingly penetrated into multiple links of medical services.

How to meet the challenge of AI to the traditional healthcare industry? At the ongoing 2024 Tianjin Two Sessions, Liu Yin, a member of the Tianjin Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), proposed in a motion that as AI is applied in the healthcare field, ethical issues are becoming increasingly prominent. A sound ethical supervision mechanism for AI use should be established to regulate the application of AI in the medical field and, within the legal framework, ensure patients' rights and the public-welfare nature of medical services in society. At the same time, public awareness of AI should be raised through publicity and education, misunderstandings should be eliminated, and a favorable social environment should be created for the application of AI in the medical field.

Liu Yin pointed out that at present, medical staff face a large amount of medical documents and repetitive medical information in the course of practicing medicine. In patient management work, doctors need to spend half their time dealing with various medical documents, resulting in inefficient work. The use of AI can reduce doctors' tedious labor and also make medical information more accurate and reliable, allowing doctors to devote more time to diagnosis and treatment work, making diagnosis and treatment more precise and efficient.

Liu Yin said that high-quality data is the foundation for AI development. The standards and specifications for data in Tianjin's medical institutions should be strengthened, the quality of medical data should be improved, and strong support should be provided for the application of AI in the medical field. The application of AI in the medical field requires the promotion of professional talent. It is suggested that the Municipal Health Commission strengthen cooperation with universities and, under the unified deployment of the Municipal Education Commission, strengthen talent cultivation and enhance AI and medical professional training, so as to cultivate a group of interdisciplinary talents with both medical knowledge and AI technical capabilities. At the same time, scientific research combining clinical disciplines with AI should be established, with early action and early planning, to carry out multicenter clinical research and validation for AI achievements, and strive to have more Tianjin voices in AI research achievements appear on domestic and international academic stages.

Liu Yin said that meeting the challenge of AI to traditional industries requires the joint efforts of the government, enterprises, medical institutions, educational institutions, research institutions and other parties to seize opportunities and overcome difficulties, thereby promoting efficient, precise and innovative development of the healthcare industry.
