On January 10, the major overhaul project of the north tube of the Jinan Kaiyuan Tunnel was proceeding in an orderly manner. At present, the top of the tunnel has been sprayed with a sky-blue background, and the "starlight" lighting fixtures installed on the ceiling from the eastern end to the middle section have been lit up, creating a "starry sky tunnel" renovation effect consistent with that of the south tube. The decorative panels on the tunnel side walls have been installed in place, and the guardrail on one side of the tunnel is being installed, enhancing the overall appearance of the tunnel.

It is understood that the Kaiyuan Tunnel was completed and opened to traffic in 2006. It is a separated double-tube tunnel, with each tube about 1,500 meters long, designed as a dual six-lane roadway. Due to the complex surrounding rock conditions and the presence of geological fissures in the tunnel site area, over the 17 years of operation, varying degrees of water seepage and leakage have occurred, electromechanical facilities have aged, and local pavement has developed cracks and other problems. A comprehensive upgrading and renovation is planned for implementation this year.

At present, the overhaul of the south tube has basically been completed. The north tube is being renovated in two phases from October 9, 2023 to January 29, 2024.
