On January 8, following a blast at the tunnel face, the exit excavation of the Jintian Tunnel on the Liuwu Railway Section 4 project, invested and constructed by Guangxi Communications Investment Group and undertaken by China Railway Shanghai Engineering Bureau, successfully surpassed the 1,000-meter mark. This is the first tunnel in the Liuwu Railway Section 4 project to exceed 1,000 meters in single-head excavation, marking a phased victory in tunnel construction for the section.

Civilized construction inside the tunnel

It is understood that the Jintian Tunnel is located in Hengya Village, Chalin Village, Jintian Town, Guiping City. The tunnel has a total length of 4,465 meters and a maximum buried depth of 470 meters. The route runs through low mountains and hilly terrain. The tunnel's geological conditions are complex, with unfavorable geology including shallow cover sections, bedding-parallel rock strata, horizontal interbedded mudstone layers, and slight in-situ stress. The tunnel is generally moderately water-rich. The tunnel passes through the secondary drinking water source protection area of the Jintian Reservoir in Jintian Town and the Xishan Scenic Area (***). It runs parallel over a long distance to the existing Pingwu Expressway Guiping No. 1 Tunnel, with a minimum clear distance of 168 m. It is a Class II risk tunnel and a major and difficult project in this section.

To ensure the safe and smooth progress of tunnel construction, the Liuwu Railway Section 4 project regularly holds coordination meetings and construction production mobilization meetings, continuously improves the safety production management organizational structure, and decomposes safety management responsibilities level by level. The project has always followed the principles of "advance pipe roof support, strict grouting, short excavation, strong support, early closure, and frequent measurement," coordinating and deploying processes such as excavation, mucking, support, and secondary lining to achieve close linkage among all processes and greatly shorten construction time.

It is reported that the Liuwu Railway is an important component of the Liuzhou-Guangzhou Railway and an important conventional-speed railway corridor from Southwest China to the Pearl River Delta in the National Medium- and Long-Term Railway Network Plan. It is a regional trunk railway serving both passenger and freight transport. Invested and constructed by Guangxi Communications Investment Group, the main line has a total length of 238.167 kilometers and a design speed of 160 km/h. Once completed, the project will alleviate the tight capacity of the national railway regional network, shorten transport distances, reduce transport costs, and promote and drive the economic development of areas along the route in Guangxi.
