Recently, Hunan Province held the 2024 major project commencement ceremony, which included 8 major transportation projects. These projects are of great significance for accelerating the improvement of the province's comprehensive multi-dimensional transportation network, serving coordinated regional development, optimizing the transportation structure, and promoting multimodal transport.

　　 Liu Yang, Party Secretary of the Hunan Provincial Department of Transportation, stated that the department will, in accordance with the decisions and arrangements, persistently advance project construction, strengthen scheduling, and organize scientifically to ensure efficient progress and high-standard construction of the projects, contributing transportation strength to getting this year's provincial high-quality development off to a good start.

　　The 8 major transportation projects commencing this time involve a total investment of 33.14 billion yuan, including the Xiangjiang River Changsha to Chenglingji Class I Waterway Construction Project, the Yuanshui River Taoyuan Hub Second-Line Shiplock Construction Project, the Daorenji Wharf Project of the Yueyang Chenglingji Modern Port Cluster, the Songyanghu Phase III Project of the Yueyang Chenglingji Modern Port Cluster, the Liuyang to Jiangbei Expressway Project, the Chating Interchange to Changsha Ring Expressway Project of the Xuguang Expressway, the Chenzhou to Guiyang Section Project of the Guidong to Xintian (Ningyuan) Expressway, and the Yugong Port Railway Dedicated Line Project in Xiangyin County.

　　In the past three years, Hunan Province has completed a cumulative transportation investment of 315.8 billion yuan, started construction on 15 expressway projects totaling 1,314 kilometers, completed and opened 13 sections totaling 580 kilometers, bringing the total mileage open to traffic to 7,530 kilometers. Of the 31 planned inter-provincial corridors, 29 have been connected, fully achieving "expressway access in every county." A total of 5 high-grade waterway projects totaling 586 kilometers have been started, 69 kilometers of waterways of 1,000-ton class or above have been completed, and the total mileage has reached 1,280 kilometers. Twenty-eight berths of 1,000-ton class or above have been added, bringing the total to 142. A modern inland river shipping system has basically taken shape, centered on Dongting Lake, with the high-grade waterways of the Xiangjiang, Zishui, Yuanshui, and Lishui rivers as the framework and Yueyang Port and Changsha Port as the hubs.
