The Hongshui River No. 2 Tunnel is an extremely important link of the Wuxin Expressway connecting Wuxuan County and Xincheng County in Laibin City. With a total length of 4.2 kilometers, it is located in a karst region. The Wuxuan-side portal spans above the Beidan diversion tunnel of the "Central Guangxi Drought Relief" project, while the Xincheng-side portal sits atop a steep cliff more than 20 meters above the ground. The construction environment is complex, with high safety risks, great construction difficulty, and stringent technical requirements. During construction, the project successfully overcame the problems of rockfall and spalling in near-horizontal rock strata within the tunnel, effectively controlled overbreak and underbreak, and greatly improved construction quality and efficiency.

With a total investment of approximately 18.612 billion yuan and a main line length of 118.17 kilometers, the Wuxin Expressway passes through four counties (cities and districts), including Wuxuan County and Xingbin District of Laibin City, and 17 townships. It is a major transportation infrastructure project coordinated and advanced by the autonomous region, and is "Connecting Line 6" among the 29 connecting lines of the Guangxi expressway network. Once completed and opened to traffic, the project will open up the east-west transportation "artery" of Laibin City and is of great significance for improving circulation efficiency in the Laibin area, promoting rural revitalization along the route, and boosting development in central Guangxi.
