On November 19, the steel cofferdam for the main pier of the Fodu-side cable tower of the Shuangyumen Bridge, China's largest-span sea-crossing bridge, was successfully lowered, marking the bridge's official entry into the offshore construction phase of the main tower pile cap.

As a key control project of the second phase of the Ningbo Zhoushan Port Liuheng Highway Bridge, the Shuangyumen Bridge connects the two independent islands of Liuheng Island and Fodu Island. With a main span of 1,768 meters, it is China's largest-span sea-crossing bridge and the world's largest-span single-tower steel box girder suspension bridge. The offshore pile cap of the Shuangyumen Fodu-side cable tower under construction has a diameter of 27 meters and a height of 7 meters. Both the left and right pile caps are constructed using steel-concrete composite box cofferdams, with each single steel-concrete composite box weighing approximately 750 tons.

The second phase of the Ningbo Zhoushan Port Liuheng Highway Bridge is being constructed by a consortium of China Railway Construction Bridge Engineering Bureau Group and China Railway Construction Port and Waterway Engineering Bureau Group. Since construction began in November 2022, work has progressed simultaneously on multiple fronts, and important milestones have been completed, including the pouring of the first offshore pile foundation, onshore pile cap pouring, and offshore cable tower pile foundation pouring along the entire line. The successful lowering of the steel cofferdam for the Fodu-side cable tower of the Shuangyumen Bridge officially kicked off the offshore construction of the second phase of the Ningbo Zhoushan Port Liuheng Highway Bridge, opening a new chapter for the project.

As an important component of the "Yiwu-Ningbo-Zhoushan" open corridor, the Liuheng Highway Bridge is a major project in the implementation of the national "Belt and Road" Initiative and the "Yangtze River Economic Belt" strategy. The project is expected to be completed in 2027. Once the bridge is completed and opened to traffic, it will significantly improve the external transport conditions of the southern islands of Zhoushan, further optimize the spatial layout of the Zhoushan Archipelago New Area, and be of great significance in promoting the implementation of the national marine economy development strategy and advancing the construction of the national-level new area.
