On November 14, the 2023 national online media themed interview activity "Building Dreams on the Silk Road, Creating Brilliance through Cooperation" visited the construction site of the Phase III Expansion Project of Xi'an Xianyang International Airport. With scaffolding everywhere, machinery roaring, and engineering vehicles shuttling back and forth, the construction of the "Air Silk Road" is proceeding at full speed.

The East Terminal of the Phase III Expansion Project of Xi'an Xianyang International Airport is located in Xixian New Area, with a total construction area of approximately 700,000 square meters. It is the core project of the Phase III expansion of Xi'an Xianyang International Airport and is being constructed by the Northwest Company of China Construction Eighth Engineering Division. According to Quan Yibo, the project's technical supervisor, the Phase III project of Xi'an Xianyang International Airport is the world's second air hub after Beijing Daxing Airport to adopt a functional flow organization of "double-level departures and double-level arrivals." The main structure has four levels, of which the underground level is the baggage claim level for the future satellite terminal, the first level is the baggage claim and international arrivals level, the second level is the mixed domestic departures and arrivals level, and the third level is the check-in and international departures level. Once completed, domestic and international originating passengers will be able to depart on the same level without changing floors, and domestic passenger departures and arrivals will be mixed, comprehensively enhancing passenger comfort. "The walking distance for passengers from the center of the terminal to the farthest boarding gate will not exceed 600 meters, and the walking time will be less than 8 minutes," Quan Yibo said.

At the construction site of the Phase III Expansion Project of Xi'an Xianyang International Airport, the eight characters "Chang'an Grand Hall, New Silk Road Port" can be seen everywhere, which is precisely the design concept of the East Terminal. Quan Yibo introduced that the overall architectural style of the main terminal fully integrates the essence of Xi'an's regional culture with the characteristics of a modern air hub, presenting the cultural traits of the Sanqin region in three dimensions.

During the project's construction, Quan Yibo and the project team have also continuously broken through new technologies. "Due to environmental temperature changes and the self-shrinkage of concrete, the project's seismic isolation bearings underwent relatively large deformation during construction. Our team independently innovated and developed a new type of intelligent seismic isolation bearing capable of correction and pre-correction. This is the first new type of correction seismic isolation bearing in China, which can ensure the safe operation of the airport under earthquake conditions and can be said to fill a gap in the industry," Quan Yibo introduced. During construction, the team also independently developed China's first "Digital Construction Service Platform," the country's first carrier pile technology for collapsible loess areas, and the country's first traction-type pipe-roof ground safety protection technology, and completed the first large-span grid steel structure rotational lifting in the Northwest region...

It was also learned on site that, as the largest gateway airport in the Northwest region, once the Phase III Expansion Project of Xi'an Xianyang International Airport is completed, it will form a development pattern of four runways, four terminals, and dual-driven east and west terminal areas, capable of meeting an annual passenger throughput of 83 million person-times and a cargo and mail throughput of 1 million tons. It will strongly support the construction of the "International Transport Corridor" and "International Aviation Hub," and is of major and far-reaching significance for advancing the building of a civil aviation power in the new era, deeply integrating into the overall framework of jointly building the "Belt and Road," and writing a new chapter of high-quality development in Shaanxi.
