The main works section 1 of the G1503 Highway and Zhoudeng Expressway Pudong Hub Section Project comprises a total of 266 diaphragm walls, with a thickness of 0.8–1.0 m, all adopting the GXJ joint type.

Project Overview

The project is located west of the planned Shanghai East Railway Station and is an important component of the "three vertical and five horizontal" rapid distribution system of the Pudong Hub. It will serve as the main external transport corridor of the Pudong Hub, improve internal connectivity and external links among the clusters along the route, and create conditions for high-quality integrated station-city development in the region. It is the inaugural project for building the Pudong Hub into a fully functional, world-class modern large-scale comprehensive transport hub.

Construction Difficulties

A 3.1 m thick sandy silty clay layer with abundant phreatic water exists in the shallow strata

1) Determine the collapse and necking conditions of each soil layer through trial trenching;

2) Adjust mud parameters and optimize the mix ratio based on the trial trenching results to reduce construction risks;

3) Improve trenching accuracy, reduce the impact of repeated correction on the trench section, shorten exposure time, and ensure trench stability;

4) Adopt pre-dewatering measures for the diaphragm wall.

Large project volume and tight schedule

1) Make full use of site conditions to carry out construction at multiple work faces;

2) Reasonably arrange the construction workflow and adjust it promptly according to site progress;

3) Increase investment in equipment and human resources to effectively improve construction efficiency.
