On October 18, the National Bureau of Statistics released data related to the national economy for the third quarter of 2023. According to preliminary calculations, the gross domestic product (GDP) for the first three quarters was 91,302.7 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 5.2% at constant prices. The total output value of the construction industry in the third quarter was 2,319.3 billion yuan, and 6,019.7 billion yuan for the first three quarters.

As shown in the figure above, the gross output value of the construction industry in the third quarter was 2,319.3 billion yuan, an increase of 6.6% over the same period of the previous year; for the first three quarters it was 6,019.7 billion yuan, an increase of 6.6% over the same period of the previous year. The scale of fixed asset investment continued to expand, and investment in high-tech industries continued to grow rapidly. In the first three quarters, national fixed asset investment (excluding rural households) was 37,503.5 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 3.1%; after deducting the impact of price factors, a year-on-year increase of 6.0%.

By sector, infrastructure investment increased by 6.2% year on year, manufacturing investment grew by 6.2%, and real estate development investment fell by 9.1%. The floor area of commercial housing sold nationwide was 848.06 million square meters, a year-on-year decrease of 7.5%; the sales value of commercial housing was 8,907.0 billion yuan, a decrease of 4.6%.
