According to the Guangxi Railway Investment Group, the feasibility study report for the section of the Nanning-Shenzhen High-Speed Railway from the Pearl River Delta Hub Airport to the Guangxi-Guangdong provincial border has recently been approved by the Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission. This is the last section of the entire Nanning-Shenzhen High-Speed Railway that has yet to begin construction; once construction starts, it will mark the Nanning-Shenzhen High-Speed Railway entering a new stage of full-line construction.

The section of the Nanning-Shenzhen High-Speed Railway from the Pearl River Delta Hub Airport to the Guangxi-Guangdong provincial border connects to the west with the under-construction Nanning-Yulin section and Yulin-Cenxi section in Guangxi, and to the east with the Guangdong Pearl River Delta Hub Airport-Jiangmen section and Jiangmen-Shenzhen section. It is an important section of the Nanning-Shenzhen High-Speed Railway linking the two provinces (regions) of Guangxi and Guangdong. The total estimated investment approved this time is 28.336 billion yuan, and the total construction period of the project is 4 years.

The Nanning-Shenzhen High-Speed Railway starts in Nanning City, Guangxi in the west and ends in Shenzhen City, Guangdong in the east, passing through Yulin and Wuzhou (Cenxi) in Guangxi and Yunfu, Zhaoqing, Foshan, Jiangmen, Zhongshan, Zhuhai and other cities in Guangdong. The total length of the line is 648 kilometers, of which 304 kilometers are within Guangxi and 344 kilometers within Guangdong. The design standard is a double-track high-speed railway with a speed of 350 kilometers per hour. After the Nanning-Shenzhen High-Speed Railway is completed, the travel time from Nanning to Shenzhen will be shortened to about 2 hours and 30 minutes. It is of great significance for further promoting the "two-bay linkage" between the Guangxi Beibu Gulf Economic Zone and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, realizing the coordinated regional development of the Pearl River-Xijiang Economic Belt, and implementing the national "Belt and Road" strategy.

The Guangxi section of the Nanning-Shenzhen High-Speed Railway is Guangxi's first 350-kilometer-per-hour high-speed railway built with independent investment. Among it, the Nanning-Yulin section began full-scale construction in December 2019 and is expected to be completed and opened to traffic in 2024; the Yulin-Cenxi (Guangxi-Guangdong provincial border) section began full-scale construction on September 30, 2022 and is expected to be completed and opened to traffic in 2026.
