On October 5, the Zhangjinggao Yangtze River Bridge reached another milestone node—under the maintenance and support of the Zhangjiagang Maritime Safety Administration, concrete pouring began for the south main tower pile cap of the south navigation channel bridge, marking that all cable towers of the bridge have entered the construction stage of the pile cap and tower column.
The south main tower pile cap has an octagonal plan structure, equivalent to the area of 10 standard basketball courts. It uses C40 concrete poured in three layers, with approximately 3,500 tons of steel reinforcement and a total of 37,000 cubic meters of concrete. In the future, it will serve to bear the weight of the above-water portion of the main tower and the superstructure of the bridge, and to transfer the load to the main tower pile foundation. The first layer of the south main tower pile cap is poured in two stages, with approximately 6,300 cubic meters of concrete poured this time.
Before the pile cap pouring, the Zhangjiagang Maritime Safety Administration, in conjunction with the pre-Mid-Autumn and National Day water construction safety production inspection, worked with the command center and the construction unit to re-optimize and further improve the construction plan, safety measures, and emergency response plans. At the same time, the Zhangjiagang Maritime Safety Administration urged all participating units to strengthen communication and coordination, ensure smooth information flow, and earnestly implement technical briefings, scientifically allocate resources and manpower, strictly control the quality of raw materials and construction techniques, and strengthen on-site construction organization to ensure that this concrete pouring is completed with high quality and safety.
It is introduced that the Zhangjinggao Yangtze River Bridge connects the three cities of Suzhou, Taizhou, and Nantong, with a river-crossing section totaling 7,859 meters in length and two navigation channel bridges, south and north. Among them, the south navigation channel bridge, in which CCCC Second Harbor Engineering Co., Ltd. participates in construction, is the world's largest-span bridge with a main span of 2,300 meters. Its south main tower is 350 meters high and will be the world's tallest suspension bridge cable tower upon completion. It is also the only above-water main tower among the four main towers of the bridge's south and north navigation channel bridges. During the National Day holiday, more than 700 builders of the south navigation channel bridge of the Zhangjinggao Yangtze River Bridge stayed at their posts and worked on the front line, making every effort to ensure the construction and production progress of this national key project, as a tribute to the 74th anniversary of the founding of the great motherland.
