On September 22, as the last shield tunneling machine broke through the ground at City First Hospital Station, the first phase of Chengdu Rail Transit Line 30 achieved full tunnel breakthrough, marking the smooth fulfillment of the line's first Level-1 milestone and a key step toward the line's scheduled opening for initial operation.

The first phase of Chengdu Rail Transit Line 30 starts at Shuangliu Airport Terminal 2 Station and ends at Longquan Station, running in a southwest-northeast direction. The line is 27.96 kilometers long with 24 stations (all underground). The line is of great significance for leveraging the overall functional role of Chengdu's rail transit network, densifying the rail network in the southern part of the urban area, supporting the construction of the Shuangliu Airport airport economy zone and the eastern new city, and strengthening and meeting the transportation needs between the central urban area and peripheral regions.

As of now, 23 stations along the first phase of Chengdu Rail Transit Line 30 have been capped, ancillary structures are 34% complete, track laying is 16% complete, and electromechanical and decoration works are 26% complete. Construction of ancillary structures, track, electromechanical installation and station decoration is being accelerated.

Comprehensive Coordination and Meticulous Management to Accelerate Construction

The geological conditions along the shield tunneling sections of the first phase of Line 30 are complex and diverse, with as many as 77 major and difficult crossings, including beneath aprons, metro lines, railways, expressways and rivers. The project carries high safety risks and poses great difficulties for construction and management.

During the preliminary preparation stage, Chengdu Rail Group, together with all participating parties, established a special working group to actively coordinate construction formalities and make overall plans in terms of equipment selection, construction scheduling and construction risk sources, laying a solid foundation for shield tunneling along the entire line. During the construction stage, all participating parties remained firmly focused on the tunnel breakthrough goal and dynamically optimized construction scheduling through measures such as increasing the number of shield machines, changing the way shields pass through stations, and adjusting launch and reception locations, ensuring that the overall shield construction progressed in an orderly manner as planned. During shield construction, process management was closely monitored, and in-depth analysis was conducted on the working time of each procedure and safeguard measures for equipment, materials and muck removal, continuously improving the overall efficiency of shield construction. The comprehensive tunneling index of some sections exceeded 300 meters per month, and the shield tunneling task was successfully completed over a total of 828 days.

Pursuing Multiple Initiatives to Build a High-Quality Livelihood Project

It is understood that over the past two years and more, in the face of external challenges such as heavy pollution weather warnings and high-temperature power restrictions, as well as internal difficulties such as complex geological conditions along the line, numerous risk sources beneath crossings and a tight schedule, Chengdu Rail Group worked in coordination with all participating parties to overcome difficulties and collaborate efficiently, ensuring that shield construction along the entire line progressed safely, with high quality and efficiently.

Strictly implementing safety production. Chengdu Rail Group strictly implemented the sixteen-character guideline for shield construction—"controlling underpressure, ensuring full grouting, deep measurement, and active protection"—strictly controlled acceptance of construction safety conditions, strictly enforced the implementation of various safety measures, and advanced shield construction along the entire line in an orderly manner. It persisted in promoting safety through science and technology, relying on the Chengdu Rail Construction Safety Risk Smart Management System to scientifically carry out whole-process management of shield construction. At the same time, through measures such as controlling muck output, increasing synchronous and secondary grouting volumes, strengthening construction monitoring, and promptly carrying out investigation and disposal of geological hazards, formation settlement was effectively controlled and the safety production defense line was consolidated.

Standardizing quality management. Chengdu Rail Group deeply practiced the philosophy of "putting the people at the center" and attached great importance to quality control. It actively carried out quality management with a craftsmanship spirit of striving for perfection, strictly implemented measures such as the "quality real-name system" and "model guidance," and continuously strengthened construction surveying, segment production, assembly quality control and finished product protection, effectively ensuring that the formed tunnel quality was solid internally and beautiful externally.

Carrying out civilized construction on a regular basis. Chengdu Rail Group actively implemented the "dual carbon" strategy and strictly implemented various environmental protection requirements. Through measures such as "fog cannon spraying," "dust-proof sky curtains," "real-time monitoring of dust and noise," "new energy transport vehicles" and "sewage purification systems," it continuously strengthened on-site civilized construction management and built green rail transit projects. All work sites along the entire line were rated as Chengdu Green Benchmark Construction Sites. At the same time, it built a "shield muck solidification yard" to high standards, solving the problem of disposing of shield mudstone muck and achieving the "reduction, harmlessness and resource utilization" of shield muck disposal, yielding good economic and social benefits.

Next, Chengdu Rail Group will strictly uphold the red lines of safety and quality, implement the overall requirements of "safety, civility and stability," accelerate the construction of lines under the fourth phase of the rail transit construction plan and the municipal (suburban) railway, help build a three-dimensional transportation system for the Chengdu metropolitan area, and continue to contribute rail strength to Chengdu's comprehensive efforts to build a park city demonstration zone that practices the new development philosophy.
