On September 12, the reporter learned from the Banan District Transportation Bureau that the Yanjiaba Tunnel of the Chongqing-Wanzhou High-Speed Railway has been successfully holed through. This is the first tunnel in the Banan section of the Chongqing-Wanzhou High-Speed Railway to be holed through, laying a solid foundation for the smooth construction of the railway.

The Yanjiaba Tunnel is located in Shimen Village, Shuanghekou Town, Banan District, with a total length of 171 meters. Qi Zhenhan, chief engineer of the No. 1 Sub-division of Section 9 (pre-station) of the Chongqing-Wanzhou High-Speed Railway, introduced that the entire tunnel lies in a shallow-buried section, with a maximum burial depth of 33 meters; the whole tunnel passes through Grade V surrounding rock, and the main adverse geological conditions are weak surrounding rock and bedding bias, making construction highly difficult. The tunnel is also one of the six tunnels in the Banan section of the Chongqing-Wanzhou High-Speed Railway. At present, all tunnels and bridges in the Banan section are progressing in an orderly manner.

It is understood that the Chongqing-Wanzhou High-Speed Railway is an important component of the Baotou (Yinchuan)-Haikou and Beijing-Kunming corridors of the national "Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal" high-speed rail network, as well as an important component of the auxiliary corridor of the Yangtze River high-speed railway. It is a high-speed railway that serves both the long-distance inter-regional passenger flow from the southwest region heading north and east and the intercity passenger flow between Chongqing and Wanzhou.

The Chongqing-Wanzhou High-Speed Railway is entirely located within the territory of Chongqing Municipality. It starts from Chongqing East Railway Station, passes through Nan'an District, Banan District, Fuling District, Fengdu County, and Zhongxian County of Chongqing Municipality, and reaches Wanzhou District, where it connects to Wanzhou North Railway Station. The line has a total length of about 251 km, with five stations along the route: Chongqing East, Fuling North, Fengdu North, Zhongxian, and Wanzhou North. In Banan District, it passes through Shuanghekou Town, Fengsheng Town, and Mudong Town, with a total line length of about 26 km in the district. It is a high-speed railway with a design speed of 350 km/h.

It is understood that the Chongqing-Wanzhou High-Speed Railway project started construction in October 2022. After completion and opening to traffic, the travel time from Chongqing to Wanzhou will be shortened to less than one hour, effectively promoting the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing Twin-City Economic Circle and the economic and social development of major cities along the Yangtze River.
