On August 28, the connecting road from the Jiangnan area to the high-speed rail area in Wanzhou, Chongqing, officially opened to traffic. This marks the opening of Wanzhou's first municipal extra-long tunnel, adding a fast corridor between the two areas. It is of great significance to Wanzhou's efforts to accelerate the building of a "one district, one hub, two centers" and to the overall urban spatial layout structure.

On August 28, the connecting road from the Jiangnan area to the high-speed rail area in Wanzhou officially opened to traffic.

It is understood that the Jiangnan area to high-speed rail area connecting road project is an important component of Wanzhou's arterial road network. It starts at the bridgehead of the Wanzhou Second Bridge and extends northward, intersecting with the High-Speed Rail Avenue through the newly built Dulishan Tunnel and the planned main road in the high-speed rail area. It mainly consists of three major parts: the comprehensive transportation system at the north bridgehead of the Yangtze River Second Bridge, the Dulishan Tunnel, and the main road project from the tunnel's north exit to the high-speed rail area. The total length is about 4.6 kilometers, with six lanes in both directions. Construction began in early 2020 and, after more than 1,300 days of intensive work, the project was completed and opened five months ahead of schedule.

The reporter learned that the Dulishan Tunnel project is the main controlling project of the connecting road from the Jiangnan area to the high-speed rail area in Wanzhou District. It has a total length of 3.14 kilometers, with its entrance at the north bridgehead of the Wanzhou Yangtze River Second Bridge and its exit in Maliu Community, Tiancheng Subdistrict. It passes beneath Dulishan and is an extra-long urban tunnel with an extra-large cross-section. It is also Wanzhou's first municipal extra-long tunnel, with a maximum burial depth of about 244 meters and a minimum burial depth of only 12 meters. The overall terrain is complex, and the requirements for controlling surrounding rock deformation during construction were very high.

According to the introduction, previously Wanzhou's road network lacked a fast corridor from the Jiangnan area to the high-speed rail area. Traveling from the Jiangnan area to the high-speed rail area required detours through urban clusters such as Beishan and Zhoujiaba, taking more than 30 minutes. Now that the connecting road has been completed and opened to traffic, the travel time from the Jiangnan area to the high-speed rail area has been reduced to 10 minutes.

At the same time, the fully interconnected interchange implemented at the north bridgehead of the Yangtze River Second Bridge, through the construction of 11 ramps, forms 5 ramp bridges, one traffic-maintenance bridge, and 4 vehicular underpass sections. It links the Wanzhou Yangtze River Second Bridge, Dulishan Tunnel, Xingfu Road, Pipaping East Road, and Beibin Road, creating a fast through-interchange system for a complex traffic intersection and making the north bridgehead of the Yangtze River Second Bridge unobstructed from now on.

The connecting road from the Jiangnan area to the high-speed rail area greatly shortens the spatial and temporal distance between several urban areas and accelerates the flow of people, logistics, and other factors. It is of great significance to Wanzhou's northward urban development, the building of a pattern of smooth internal connections and external linkages, and the construction of an economic center in the Three Gorges Reservoir area. This connecting road links a series of important public infrastructure, public service facilities, and industrial parks, which is very beneficial for Wanzhou to accelerate the building of a "one district, one hub, two centers," construct the overall urban spatial layout structure of "one river, four areas, one main center and two sub-centers," and further highlight Wanzhou's leading and driving role in the integrated development of Wanzhou, Dazhou, and Kaizhou in Sichuan and Chongqing and in the urbanization construction of Wanzhou, Kaizhou, and Yunyang. It will also help Wanzhou play a greater role in the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle.
