Recently, XCMG XZ11000 and XZ6600 horizontal directional drilling rigs completed a dual-machine opposite-direction crossing for the world's longest mountain crossing project — the Xiangshan China Resources Gas project — with a crossing length of 3,960 meters, setting multiple industry construction records at once.

Xiangshan in Ningbo, Zhejiang, has seen rapid social and economic development in recent years, with growing demand for clean energy. This project is the Phase II high-pressure project of Xiangshan Gas Co., Ltd., with a pipeline design pressure of 1.6–4.0 MPa, a pipe diameter of DN400, and a designed annual gas transmission capacity of 210 million cubic meters. Once laid, it will solve the energy shortage problem in the Xiangshan area.

This directional mountain-crossing gas pipeline section has a total length of 3.94 kilometers and is currently the world's longest mountain crossing project. Drilling entered rock immediately upon spudding, with construction throughout in rock formations, a maximum burial depth of 460 meters, and a horizontal elevation difference of 60 meters. It faced construction challenges such as mountain water inflow, fractured zones, cavities and fissures, pilot-hole threading, and limited site space.

The two XCMG super-large-tonnage directional drilling rigs, XZ11000 and XZ6600, faced each other across the mountain. Pilot drilling began on February 20, crossing rock formations with hardness exceeding 100 MPa and a mountain height of 400–500 meters. The main pipe pullback was successfully completed on July 17, finishing ahead of schedule. The entire process had zero failures and was high-quality and efficient, earning high praise from the user.

Coinciding with the successful crossing of the world's longest mountain crossing project — the Xiangshan China Resources Gas project — XCMG Foundation invited more than 50 industry association leaders, experts, major industry clients, and regional benchmark customers to gather in Xiangshan for on-site observation and exchange on ultra-long mountain crossing construction technology. At the exchange meeting, XCMG released its large-tonnage core technology and electric-driven drilling rigs, setting off a wave of orders.

This Xiangshan mountain crossing of 3,960 meters involved many unpredictable conditions due to formations, geographical location, and other reasons, but with the efforts of all parties, it was perfectly completed in 5 months and 11 days. The two XCMG horizontal directional drilling rigs, XZ11000 and XZ6600, operated with zero failures throughout and finished ahead of schedule, truly saving me a large sum of money.
