Recently, after 6 years and 3 months of arduous construction, the right tube of the Daxiagu Tunnel on the Emei-Hanyuan Expressway—the expressway tunnel with the "world's greatest burial depth"—was holed through. The project is invested by Shudao Expressway Group under Shudao Group and constructed by Sichuan Road & Bridge, laying a solid foundation for the full breakthrough of the Daxiagu Tunnel.

The Daxiagu Tunnel is a key controlling project of the Emei-Hanyuan Expressway. Its entrance is located in Jinkouhe District, Leshan City, and its exit is in Ganluo County, Liangshan Prefecture. With a total length of 12.1 km, it is an extra-long tunnel. Its maximum burial depth is 1,944 m, making it the expressway tunnel with the greatest burial depth in the world. Once the Daxiagu Tunnel is holed through, all tunnels along the Emei-Hanyuan Expressway will be fully connected, and the entire line is expected to open to traffic by the end of 2023.

The Emei-Hanyuan Expressway has a total length of 122.882 km and an estimated investment of 20.521 billion yuan. It is built to a four-lane expressway standard and includes two service areas. It is the "6th horizontal line" among the eight east-west lines in the Sichuan Provincial Expressway Network Plan (2014-2030), connecting the Chengdu-Leshan Expressway, Leshan-Ya'an Expressway, Leshan-Zigong Expressway, Leshan-Xichang Expressway, and Ya'an-Xichang Expressway.

After the project is completed, tourist attractions such as Mount Emei, Heizhugou, the Grand Canyon, and Hanyuan Lake will be linked into a single route, and the travel quality in ethnic minority areas including Ebian Yi Autonomous County, Jinkouhe District, and Ganluo County will be significantly improved. It is of great significance for promoting economic and social development and rural revitalization in ethnic minority areas.
